I started my chickens out with crumble and was going thru about 200 pounds (4 bags) in less then 4 weeks, with not a lot of waste on the ground as my feeder is hung (5 gallon bucket with drilled holes and a 6" tray screwed to it, and when I sent my sons for more feed, not knowing they bought...
I have a poop tray under my roosts and clean it out weekly with a cat scoop and put it in an old feed bag.....don't have any use for it, other than maybe I can spread it on the weeds around my run? Will it kill them? I'm hoping so.....will the poop stay "hot" because it's straight poop with no...
29 hens, about 5 1/2 months old, getting about 16 eggs a day, only about 8 of them are on the coop floor!! Looks like a 2 year old egg hunt LOL.....8 nests and they lay in 2 but 1/2 of the eggs are layed on the coop floor.....yes there is straw about 4" thick, but that's not the nests girls...
29 hens, 3 roosters and they gave us our first egg July 4th!! And a double yolker at that! I am now getting 6-8 per day!! So exciting....here's some pics of our flock....mostly the roosters because they are pretty awesome looking!
and are sitting on about 2 dz eggs!!! will be an interesting next weekend! My plan is to "quarantine" off the "coop" and have the other birds stay in the run (they roost in the rafters anyway) but how do you keep momma's from eating the starter feed?

If I let her sit on them and hatch, I have to move them afterwards right? I can't leave the chicks in with the other hens and one roo...??? just curious...and if I decide that I don't want chicks, and I pull the eggs after she's been on them for 3-4 days, are they ok to eat or should I throw...
