I'm in Texas, and the backyard is empty, if someone has poultry, ducks or chickens etc to rehome let me know - I take in strays. I don't think I can have roosters in this area tho :(
I would like to hear all your experiences raising chickens in the cold northern Yukon.
What do you wish you had known when you started with your flock in the Yukon? Any advice? What are your preferred breeds to for winter hardiness, where do you buy your chicks from? Predators? Anything?
Thanks!
I bought 6 guinea fowl last summer, 3 boys and 3 girls, two died. The remaining four bred like rabbits. One guinea went broody and turned up in the yard with 19!!!! chicks, 16 of which lived and are driving me nuts. Not to be outdone the other guinea decided to go broody and she turned up with...
I've been having a HELL of a time with raccoons. I thought it was just one raccoon coming for fresh chicken, guinea fowl, and duck dinner every night but now I know it's not the case. We set a trap outside the last three nights in a row and caught a different raccoon each night. We'll set it...
I have a few questions, are NNs a breed in and of themselves?
Do NN's only have other NN chicks if both parents are NNs?
What if I want a huge NN, do I just mix one with an Orpington or something like that?
Are they sex linked, if so why or why not?
I'm just starting to get into the whole...
Here is my roo Valiant, he has feathered legs and his tail looks like a chochin, he has a beard and is a lovely rooster, takes care of the chicks of his favourite Orpington, she is twice his size. Can anyone tell me what he is?
I'm thinking this is a roo?
another roo?
my friend insists this is a roo, but it has nothing on it's legs, doesn't crow but otherwise acts like a roo. I think it's a hen, I call it Pat.
I think these are girls...
does anyone want to tell me their opinions on the sex of my chickens, these...
So I have like 7 broody hens all sitting on eggs, one batch of chicks started hatching last night, and in the morning I go and find two perfectly viable chicks murdered by the broody hens, then they started to peck the remaining eggs, so I've got chicks not quite ready to hatch with drying...
Today in the chook yard, I picked up a piece of wood and there were a bunch of fat juicy worms under it, so I tossed a worm to my Australorp hen who was following me. SHE PECKED AT THE WORM AND THEN WALKED AWAY FROM IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what is wrong with my chickens? why don't they all fight...
Here she is, she's a New Hampshire and she's my first broody. I moved her into a brooding pen in the garage. So the countdown begins, this is day1. She's a large breed so I gave her 12 eggs. I'm so excited!
I candle in 10 days.
can anyone tell me what he is? He's a really good rooster, takes good care of his hens (he was going to be dinner) he has selected 5 hens who follow him faithfully and he feeds them, breaks off pieces of bread and clucks for them to eat. I'm keeping him because he's such a good roo. I thought he...
Hi,
I'm pretty sure that my 5 muscovies are all drakes, but they seem to be trying to mate with each other, do they do that? Or do I have two females that I just can't identify?
So weirdly gross
Hi I am looking to buy guinea fowl, i have a choice of keets or adults, which should I get? Can I blend 2 adults who grew up together with three who are from a different flock? All are under a year old.

I think these two are girls
I think this one is a girls too
I think this one is a boy
another boy
they're all huge but the three that I think might be girls are lightly smaller. They are almost 5 months old.
I got 25 day olds on Tuesday they all seem to be doing well, but I saw this one smaller than the rest sleeping and it just didn't look right, so I picked her up and looked at her belly. The poor thing. I don't know what's wrong with her.
Can anyone tell me what to do for her?
I have 100 day old chicks coming and I need specs on the size of the brooder, anyone know?Is there a standard size? I tried to find it but I couldn't find what I was looking for.
Thanks!
