While tending to my ducks one damp and chilly evening earlier this week, I found the youngest duckling outside his pen...lying stretched out on the ground. :( "Oh great, he's dead," I thought, ruefully picking up his stiffening body... and then I noticed his neck was moving! Even though his...
Has anyone had experience with this sort of containment? I don't want a pen or coop for our biddies; instead, I prefer something which imitates freedom as much as possible. But, 100% complete freedom means devastation for seeds and ideals of squeaky-clean porches. :P
So, I want a happy...
This might sound like a silly question...but what are tags for? So we can have more hits on a thread or post of ours if we include enough categories that people will be searching for?
Ok, this has been bugging me for a while-what do you call the people who are a little whacked in the head and get their jollies hiding out in strangers' houses and making themselves at home, unbeknownst to the owners? I had thought they were called "froggers," but I can't find any information...
I took a hatching muscovy egg away from its chicken moms and we were planning to watch it hatch...but we have no incubator. It's around 80 inside...but I was wondering if the lack of humidity (I'm guessing, since I have no idea what ours is) will negatively affect it. We have wiped the egg...
I have some scovy eggs with hen/turkey broody mamas. Do the eggs need extra moisture to make up for the water the normal scovy mama would have on her from splashing on herself during washing?
I have some in a container that's about 1/4 full. It's still somewhat dampish. It might be a month or two old....I tasted some and it tastes orangey still, if a little stale. Is it still safe to eat? It must be used for pumpkin pies.
Anyone have experience with this? They're a year old- some of them at least. Oh, and they're Scovies...should I just cook them in the crockpot for 8-12 hours or something? How much water would help them the most? Thanks!
Which incubator would y'all recommend for starting out with? I'm looking for something that's easy to clean, easy to use, and incubates a few dozen eggs, preferably. Oh, and it should have an automatic egg turner.... I'd also welcome pro's and con's about your favorites.
When I looked at my PM inbox I noticed that the last three PM's I had read were marked with a red arrow. Is this the new notation for "PM's that have been opened"? Or does it mean I have replied to them?
I have some roosters that are pastured. So they do get some wind, even though their coop has a roof. Almost all of the single-combed roos exhibit some frost damage on their combs. The problem: my one Barred Rock rooster actually has no comb points left. They just blackened and fell off...
The weather's turning colder, and someone has wondered to me: Will muscovies try to migrate south if their wings are unclipped? I surely hope not, since I am rather loathe to clip their beautiful wings.... No more looking out my upstairs window to a charming choc scovy girl on the phone...
Does anyone have sweet bologna (a.k.a. Lebanon Bologna) recipes? I am interested in both nitrate and nitrate-free versions. I'd probably like to start out with a nitrate recipe because of the reduced risk of botulism.
But I also feel ambitious and would like to experiment with some...
I believe there were earlier threads on this subject, but the opinions were divided as I remember. If they don't, have you bred them with something almost equally as meaty? And what were the end results?
I have some month-old Scovy ducklings. The problem is: one of them is drastically smaller than the rest. This batch had nearly 50% mortality from duck viral hepatitis; perhaps this poor litt'l fella is an asymptomatic carrier? Here he is next to one of his cotemporaries.
So, I can't help but notice that terrielacy changed her avatar again! I mean, at least the pansy was dignified; this new one is just...cute and quacky! May we pleaaaaase have the old goose avatar back? It was awesome! Plus, I like the "no-nonsense" look it had! You know, the "AHEM...
Someone just gave us about ten bushels of sprouted potatoes. They are not the freshest, as some of them were slimy black masses. But most of them are simply taters boasting tangled tentacles. So now they are downstairs lurking in our basement. Anyone have any potato recipes? I prefer ones...
I have some turkeys who are about a year old. There are two Narragansett toms and two Bourbon Red toms. They have some girls but the turkey girls basically run off and do their own thing most of the day, so the toms stand around and strut at each other. For some weeks now, three of the toms...
