My silkies are just over 9 months old and I FINALLY got my first silkie egg! Just had to share. The wait was killing me, I have EEs that are the same age and they have been laying for months. Lol
So, these little cuties are 3 weeks old. Is the one with the bigger comb for sure a fella? I have 6 EE chicks from Ideal Poultry and all their combs are flat, except this one. Is there a chance it's still a she? Pictures 3 and 4 show the chick in question.
New babies incoming, this will bring my flock to 18.:celebrate Also anyone crossed EEs with silkies? I think it would AMAZING to have silkies that blue and green eggs.
So he has agreed to help me with a 2nd coop for silkies, my current coop has Jersey Giants and while it works, it definitely isn't pretty. So can I see your coops for inspiration? Especially if they are for silkies/ bantams.
So this is my very first time incubating eggs, and 5 of my 6 babies have hatched. But they are pecking at this last one and I can see a bit blood. Will this last baby be ok? Should I remove the other chicks and put them in the brooder?
Last night my dogs were going crazy barking, but I couldn't see any reason why. Until I went to feed my silkies this morning, 0nly to discover the coop door was wide open and my little paint cockerel was gone. It's been a hard few weeks here, lost a duck to my husband's dog, ordered baby chicks...
So I am dealing with a splay legs for the first time and this is what I found to be the easiest way to hobble a chick.i took 2 tiny clear hair bands and tied them together. They stretch very well to get on and off and since they are clear the other chicks don't pick at it much at all.
I just got a text alert that my chicks are at the post office! it's taking all my strength not to drive down there right now, but its 5:30 am, I'm not sure if it's the post office on 4th or on North that has them, and I do have human babies to get on the school bus this morning. :gig:gig:gig...
So I posted about these cuties when I first got them, and I know the 2 are Rouen, it was suggested that the 3rd was a khaki Campbell but it's getting black adult feathers with a green sheen. Cayuga maybe?Sorry the pics aren't the best and I need to clean their pool still today.
I have an order of JG chicks coming in next week and I am trying to figure out what the best starter feed for them is. Mostly I'm concerned on the protein ratio. Chick starter with 18, flock starter with 20 or something else? Thanks in advance!
Maybe you lovely chicken people can help me out. My hens are mostly 2-3 years old and have been giving me some odd eggs lately. Bumpy shells and today I had one with a very thin shell that was laid on top of the nesting boxes. They are on flock raiser and have access to oyster shell in another...
I was just wondering if anyone has ordered chicks from TSC vs other hatcheries. I know tractor supply has them alot cheaper, but is it worth the extra cost to order elsewhere? And if so which hatchery would you suggest? I'm looking for Jersey Giants specifically if that makes a difference...
My husband let me go to the farm swap unsupervised. Lol. So now we have 3 ducklings. I have no idea on breed or anything. But I'm thrilled to have them on our homestead.
