A peachick, two days old, seems to have a blocked nare. It is active, eating, and drinking but I see its cheeks puffing in and out when it is breathing. I need some ideas on how to open/clear it.
I have 2 more keets, from different hatches, with slipped tendons. I culled a previous one with the same issue. Thankfully the majority of the keets are fine. I've learned here how fragile keets' legs can be but I'm wondering if it is just bad luck or a genetic issue.
One of my week old keets had an injury this morning. It was fine last night, but now one leg is hanging sort of sideways from the hip. lt is flopping around. Is this treatable and what should I do? I have experience using bands to fix early leg problems but am not sure if this is the right...
Yesterday I noticed that one of my Muscovy drakes is missing an eye. It doesn't seem to be bothering him except having to turn to see out of his other eye. I've cleaned area multiple times with a saline solution. No signs of infection. I have no idea what happened. He is with 4 females and...
From my first batch of incubated guinea eggs, one has turned out to be a runt. Despite the fact it is active, eating, drinking and doing keet things, it is not getting any bigger. From my readings here, it sound like there is nothing else I can do as this is a genetic condition.
A second batch...
I have 18 2 week old Easter Egger/BYM chicks. They are for sale but I would like to keep some if they are pullets. Is there any reliability to the 'wing test'. Although there is a variety of colours, 8 of them have distinctly longer wings already reaching their butts. Could they be females...
So I know not a duck, but this is my usual forum so I thought I would share. My spare room is the brooder room for the summer. I think this chick is adorable but should be named Angry Bird.
I purchased 28 guinea fowl in the fall. By the time the "getting to know their new coop" time had passed there was snow on the ground so they have spent their time divided into 2 coops and runs. I have sold most and am keeping 12 now in 1 run and coop. I have been using a whistle for...
I've been trying to use various charts for guinea colours but still am not certain. Could someone please help as I want to have proper descriptions before posting for sale. They were not very cooperative so I hope pics are clear enough
I was told this one is Lavender. Hard to see in this...
A fine example of why grammar is important. What I am actually asking is can I feed dead mice from traps to the guinea fowl? I'm assuming that I would need to thaw them if they froze overnight (the mice not the guineas lol).
I went from 0 to 28 guinea fowl because as I was starting to buy my first ones, this group became a rescue mission. Anyway, they have settled in well. I have divided them into two groups each with its own coop and run. They are learning that my whistle means good things coming, and putting...
My original intention had been to get 10 guinea fowl. I found my first 4 , 2 male, 2 female, as healthy 5 months old. They are currently living in a coop with a run that is large enough for 10 guineas for the winter.
I followed up on another local ad. The elderly mother had passed away this...
I went to see a person selling 5 month old guinea fowl. I hung around their run until I was sure which had the double call but it was only 2 of the 12 she was selling. I bought the 2 females and 2 of the males. Pictures tomorow when they have settled. I plan to get 6 more as soon as possible...
I already have chickens, peacocks, and ducks so have some experience with poultry, but am now getting some guineas.
I have done lots of readying so hope that I have everything necessary. They will have a coop that is 10 x 10 and 8 ft high. This is attached to a run that is 15 x 15 and 12 ft...
The temperatures were unseasonably warm but we are having a week of cold and rain. The older peafowl don't seem to having a problem adapting. They have a large run and access to an area of the barn if they choose to come in.
I had 3 2-year old peas. I found one dead with no previous signs of...
Looking for advice for a 2 week old peachick. One wing is drooping. Otherwise it is active, eating, doing all the things it should be doing. It is with 2 other peachicks and it is tough to get a good picture so I hope these are clear enough. Excuse the mess. They are in a temporary space...
I have 3 peas about 14 months old. They seem to be identical in terms of size, shape and feathering, so I posting pics of one of them. Any ideas as to whether male or female?
Found this pile of scat on the trail through my property. Trail goes through meadows and into mixed woods. The pile is about 10 inches across, with the dark part on top of the bigger pile. Looks like it is full of corn. No sign of bones or feathers. We have black bears in the area, Eastern...
It has been a discouraging year for hatching. Previous years I have had high hatch rates with healthy chicks and ducklings. I was doing same things this year. My temperature and humidity monitors have been calibrated and I always have 2 of each in the incubators. My temperatures and humidity...
I have 2 Muscovy ducks who have been very good at sharing broody duties with 8 eggs. Yesterday 2 hatched are are doing great. This morning these 2 adults were pecking an egg as it hatched. An hour later I found this poor duckling abandoned in the coop while the first 2 cuddled with the...
