These Cream Legbar chicks are 1 week old today.
No white marks on their heads.
The dorsal stripes down the back don't seem that dark though.
Do these look like pullets or roos to you?
chick 1 and 2
chick 2...
Although Cream Legbar are a sex linked breed and you should be able to tell them apart when they hatch, when my Cream Legbars hatched most of them had ambiguous markings. They are 3 weeks old now. Any ideas how many roos and hens? 2 pics are of them at 3 weeks. One is from when they were one day...
These are my 3 French Black Copper Marans. 12 Weeks old.
I can only keep one of these and it can't be a roo.
All these look like hens to me, but I've never had the breed before.
What do you think?
One of them has a lot of color in the neck feathers and that is the one I would like to...
I just hatched some Cream Legbar chicks and I'm having a hard time sexing them. They are purebred from greenhill stock. I'v been told the males will have a white dot on their head and the females will have a dorsal stipe from their head and all the way down their back (chipmunk stripes)...

Cream Legbar are supposed to be self sexing at hatch but I'm having a hard time telling these apart. Hatched yesterday 5/25/13.
Sometimes they all look like roos to me and sometimes they all look like pullets. Help.
Any Ideas...
I just purchased eggs on ebay today 3/21/13. They will be shipped tomorrow and get here just before Easter. I'm going out of town for Easter Weekend and I won't be around to make sure nothing goes wrong with the temp setting of the incubator.
Would it be a really bad idea to wait until 4/1/13...
I just hatched some eggs that I got from ebay. Out of 18 eggs only 3 of them didn't grow. 7 hatched but it looks like at least 6 of the ones that didn't hatch made it to lockdown and then died.
Has anyone ever had something similar happen. I'm not sure what I did wrong at lockdown.
I have my overpriced fertile eggs from ebay. I have my hovobator with a fan, and I have 3 digital thermometers all with different temperatures and no way to know if any of them are actually reading the correct temperature. I could buy another thermometer but that would just be throwing more...
I looked online to try to find out how to calibrate a digital thermometer and the only thing I can find is to put it in a glass of ice water. I can't submerge mine in water.
Is there any other way?
someone told me coffee grounds were good for composting and that it was ok to put them in the chicken run. Is it ok for chickens to eat caffinated coffee grounds?
I had my thermometor sensor at the top of the incubator and thought the temp was 101 degrees (hovabator, no fan),.
At lock down when I realized the thermometor sensor was at the top instead of at the bottom where the eggs were I realized the temp at the bottom was only around 96 degrees.
Do...
I have 4 week old chicks that have been eating medicated feed. I still have a lot of the medicated feed left over and I don't want to waste it.
How long is it ok to feed chicks the medicated feed?
