It’s called “let’s fill the water dish with all the straw we can til it becomes a clump of solid muck” 4 water dishes and all look like this.
They started doing this a few days ago. Then squawk angrily at me when I come check on them because they have no water to drink
🙄
So my girl Arya, I noticed last night she had something sticking out of her mouth. Thought it was a leaf. But as I picked her up and checked her it looked like an abscess.
But when I opened her mouth it looks more like the skin inside her mouth stretched and is sticking out the side. It’s not...
So Floppy is the duckling I took in and raised that someone had dumped at a marina and had a sever niacin deficiency
Her legs and feet were like cheap plastic and felt like she didn’t have any bones at all.
We’ve given her niacin regularly but 3 months later and she still couldn’t take more...
So one of my ducklings I took in with the severe niacin deficiency has been getting slowly better. Her legs have mass and bone now.
But she may never get to be an outside duck. One leg is almost like it’s fused and doesn’t bend well. The other the leg has formed straight but the knee joint is...
So Floppy’s bones are getting thicker and stronger with the niacin. But she still kept them bowlegged under her so we’re starting to form mid-shapened.
Saw stuff on line where people made duck wheelchairs / hammocks for ducks with injured feet. Pvc pipe frames and something they lay in that...
So took in a couple pekin ducklings that someone had dumped at a local river. They both had bad niacin deficiency.
One is responding well. The other’s legs are so bad. They were basically sideways pointing in.
Normally I use the B complex from TSC. I had a little and one’s legs are looking...
So after we got our 2 ducklings, a friend who runs a rescue asked if I could take in 2 more pekin ducklings that someone had dumped at a local marina
Ones legs were severely pigeon toed. Started them on b complex. They were a hair smaller than my ducks who were approaching 3 weeks old. So...
So my 2 little ducklings, kinda noticed this but as they are getting bigger it’s becoming more noticeable, looks like one side of their chest is noticeably larger than the other. Something to be concerned about?
Trying to get a good picture of these little weirdos is tough 😂
So bought 2 ducklings to raise for my granddaughter since the ones I was hatching didn’t make it.
Had them a little over a week. 2 pekins. Think one is male and one female which is fine.
The male has just 2 times in a row now, pooped out clear liquid. Not normal poop. Just like… pure water...
Egg has been popped for about 24 hours
Been in this state since about 6 pm last night
Lil guy chirps every so often
At what point might they need help? I don’t want to do more harm than good
So my jumbo pekin male, Howard… he has a hard time getting around. One of his legs is noticeably larger than the other. As such he has a hard time getting in and out of the pools so he gets dirty a lot. He likes to be sprayed down with the hose though so I put it on shower and spray him down to...
I have a Muscovy that feels all plant life is an abomination and destroys it. I tried growing Tracts of grass and planting the grown grass in the pen. Gone within an hour. Tried growing some lemon grass plants. Full grown lemon grass. 4+ feet tall… she digs it up by the roots and knocks it over...
So day before yesterday one of my smaller ducks, Patty was limping. I checked her foot and she had what looked like advanced bumblefoot. Scab, large swollen lump. The works
Brought her in. Soaked her in warm epsom salt bath. Got the teeezers and the scab came right off…
And a large pool of jet...
So for a while I thought Jp and Sascha were one male (jp) and one female (Sascha) but now I’m not sure. They are both roughly the same size. Both about 18-0 weeks old. Neither makes a lot of noise. Any reliable way to tell before spring comes and hormones take over?
Little primrose. Her sister Katniss was killed by a male i rehomed due to that a few months ago. Her and Katniss were such mischevious little ducks together. Primrose was doing ok. I got a few more muscovies and she was the #2 Muscovie in the pen.
Last couple days she had been keeping to...
So my little Muscovy ducklings are growing nicely. Taking them out to the pen a few times. All the ducks just welcome them in except for one young female Muscovy of mine that straight out attacks them. But I’ve been taking them out supervised and that’s getting better, and these 2 are getting...
So when the duckling, DJ, from the giant egg that killed my duck Delilah didn’t make it, my wife and I were working on putting away all the stuff we got for him. A brooder, bedding, heat lamp, duckling crumble, etc
Then a friend posted on Facebook about the humane society having orphaned...
So I think the egg that killed my girl Delilah has pipped
This is my first egg hatching. I’m kinda excited
Hopefully the lil guy makes it!
Any advice for a first time egg Hatcher?
So took in this small female pekin Daisy. She was being severely over-mated by the flock she was with and her neck was all raw. Other ladies in the flock but she was the only one that the males mated woth
She had other issues a broken toe that never healed right. And some bumble foot
Treated...
One of my pekin girls Delilah I found dead this morning
Just a foot from the nest she laid her egg in
No signs of trauma, no wounds, neck doesn’t appear broken
Just dead seemingly right after laying her egg. Rigor hadn’t set in yet
Of course was worried a male had mated her to death but neck...
