Most of what I read & see has ratios of 1 male to 4 or 5 females as a group in one cage, pen, hutch, ect. What about if you are keeping 1 or 2 dozen together in a large pen?

Think I have 5 who lay. 2 eggs tend to be available around 3 pm. The other 3 are after 6pm.

Quail will chase a laser dot like a cat. :) I've got my first batch ever in the brooder. It's the beginning of week 4. Moved them to a much larger box, and was checking the temperature in various locations with a laser thermometer and found them quick to chase & peck at the dot.

I'm setting up an aviary for quail. It's 6 foot X 8 foot and comes with 1/2" X 3" mesh on the top, sides & bottom. I'm planning to take a 4 foot' roll of 1/4" mesh hardware cloth and wrapping it so 1 foot covers the floor and 3 feet comes up the sides. Any thoughts on whether or not that...
