I have a week old BCM chick. Definitely too early to tell if it is indeed a pullet, but I was wondering what some early identifying factors are that are specific to BCM, other than typical comb growth, ect? I've read that cockerels will have copper feathers come in on the body and neck and...
This little cutie was hatched 7/31 from Meyer. I know there is a 50/50 chance of getting a Frizzle that has frizzly feathers. It *looks* like they are starting to curl? Thoughts as to if it will actually have Frizzle feathers?
My Isa Brown Gracie has gone broody again. The last time she went broody, I was lucky enough to get some fall chicks from my local feed store. This year, due to some losses in my flock, I have allowed her to be a mama again and ordered some chicks for her from Meyer Hatchery that have a hatch...
My 2nd Isa Brown has gone broody. Our rooster was killed by a coyote a couple months ago so she has no fertile eggs. I want to get her some day-old fall chicks from my feed store. I moved her to my broody coop 2 days ago and she is adamant about nesting on the floor in the run. Will she...
My prairie bluebell "Ladyhawk" laid 1 blue fairy egg 4 weeks ago at 6 months old. She has not laid one since. She is not eggbound. She has no lice or mites. Is she a dud? Lol. She's cute so I won't cull her but I want my blue eggs!
I have a 10 week old prairie bluebell egger pullet who still tries to sleep underneath her mama hen, who is not having it. This pullet also tries to sleep underneath the other 10 week old chicks. Mama Hen weaned these babies about 2 weeks ago.
Will this pullet eventually stop trying anytime soon?
Approx 9 week old prairie bluebell egger. I think she is a she, but considering the fact that I ended up with a Sapphire Gem cockerel
I just want to make sure this isn't one as well!
I got a Prairie Bluebell Egger and a Sapphire Gem from my farm store a few months ago. One of them turned out to be a rooster. The one I thought was the Sapphire Gem appears to be the Prairie Bluebell (I assume this because she has muffs). Sapphire Gems are sex-linked so I would be surprised if...
Week old Speckled Sussex chick pecked in leg by bully hen. Mama did not defend chick.
Chick is limping and holding leg up. Occasionally hops but prefers to lay down. Eating and drinking. Chick has white legs and the part of the leg itself near hock looks redish, I am guessing thats where it was...
Have been dealing with a timid broody hen who cannot/will not defend week old babies from my other hens. Bully hen went after a chick and its now limping and holding it's leg. It can hop around but prefers to lay down. I can stretch its leg out but the toes feel like dead weight and floppy. I am...
Gave my broody hen 4 chicks on Friday. One didn't make it so she has 3. Mama and babies have been put in a broody enclosure inside chicken coop, see pic below. She is at bottom of pecking order and just doesn't seem like she will defend the babies from the other hens; before moving to the...
Got 4 babies to give to my broody. One of the babies did not make it, it was either a Welsummer or an SS. At first I thought the SS was the casualty but now I am not so sure.
I think this is a SS because of the pink feet and the upward eyeliner? Am I correct?
Sorry for crappy pics, she...
I have a VERY stubborn broody Isa Brown named Gracie. She has been broody for about 4 weeks now and is dedicated in her sitting. I was considering getting her fertile eggs, but my local feed store has BOGO baby chicks. I'm not sure exactly how old they are, but they appear to be around a week...
If this has already been addressed ad nauseam somewhere I apologize.
I have 4 Isa Brown hens who are roughly 9 months old. They all have been laying for around 4/5 months. Each one has laid a strong, large egg a day consistently, until a few days ago. We had 3 eggs in the nest box. The...
I have a super weird mix dog. She's half malamute, a quarter shih tzu, and the rest is yorkie, bulldog, and weiner dog. What weird mix dogs does everyone else have?
Show pictures! Here is Kimber, she's 5 months tomorrow.
