Long story short, my Belgian D’Uccle rooster Simon had a bad case of the mites in his hackle feathers. I bathed him thoroughly & treated him with Ivermectin & Elector PSP. I am no stranger to mites.
Where the mites were there is all sorts of what looks to be brown dead skin peeling off...
I love this chick but it’s huge & starting to get pink in the comb. Dad was a BCM, mama could be Ameraucana or multi-gen Olive/easter Egger. It’s just about 5 weeks old. Think I’ve got a boy? Also, is this considered a cuckoo or barred chick?
Sorry for the sub-par photos, the growouts...
Feta & Cheddar were hatched from my silkie roo, Anton, and two Olive Egger hens - Penny & Ginger.
I’m thinking pullets because of the feather patterns, but Feta (lighter chick) has a much bigger (single row) comb than Cheddar, and is generally larger.
I’ve never hatched these eggs before so...
Hi all, I’m obsessed with this baby that ended up hatching alongside some Mille Fleur D’Uccle eggs I purchased. Breeder thinks he or she is 2/3 Cochin & 1/3 silkie. Dad is pure Cochin & mom is 1/2 Cochin, 1/2 Silkie.
Confirm my suspicions… rooster? No wattles yet… 🫠🙃
I’ve done some lurking through forums RE: sexing D’Uccles & Cochins but haven’t really got a clue! New to both breeds. Any guesses?
Exhibit A) These two have very similar, straight lined combs that are yellow. Pullets?
Exhibit B) This one has a much spikier, lumpier comb.
Exhibit C)...
Hi there!
I’m very new to chickens and chicken genetics. Wondering what determines whether a polish chick is bearded or not.
I’ve NEVER seen a bearded white crested black or blue, for instance. I have only seen gold and buff laced bearded here in Ontario.
I have non-bearded gold laced and two...
I just love these two. White crested black is much larger than the splash; quite assertive but more skeptical of humans, just started letting me hold ‘her’. Splash baby is super teeny, super friendly & loves being handled.
Any guesses?! I know it’s early, but I’m just dying over here, LOL...
Hi everyone!
I’ve got two 4 w/o chicks - 2 polish & 1 salmon Faverolles in a large brooder setup, and am wondering if I could introduce my two new pullets - 12 w/o Silverudd Isbar and Olive Egger to them and have them cohabitate.
The two pullets have been quarantined and vaccinated for...
Here are some updated pics. They’re now 18 days old!
Chick #1: Suspected pullet.
Chick #2: Suspected cockerel? Darker feathers.
Chick #3: No clue. Very slow developer!
They all look so different! Any thoughts?!
I have three, 11 day old Salmon Faverolles. The two with brown feathers are shier than their larger sibling with zero tail feathers and teeny little wing feathers growing in a much darker color.
Am I right to suspect I’ve got two pullets and a cockerel? Or, could ‘they’ just be slower to...
I purchased this adorable sweetheart from a local breeder who says she obtained the eggs from a breeder in Quebec.
My question is - is Cashew here a pure Ameraucana? If so, what color is she? Lavender or super diluted splash? Her beak looks off, but the legs seem correct.
Insight...
Hi all,
I am new to chickens & fascinated by genetics related to feathering, egg color, etc. Science rules 😍
My question is, if my splash silkie roo were to breed with a splash EE or Ameraucana, what would the chicks be like? Would they be splash too?
For reference, we have Mr. Buffy (Roo)...
I have four 7 week old Ameraucanas and all but this one have slate legs with pink bottoms. How late will they change.. or is this blue/splash wheaten baby an EE? 🤔 Also… I’m thinking a cockerel but guesses are welcome.
I brought home this bunch a week ago; they’re now 3 weeks old. Sold as true Ameraucanas but this is my first time with anything other than silkies, so!
Any guesses? Cockerel or pullet?
#1 Splash
#2 Wheaten (?)
#3 Black
#4 Lavender? Blue?
I know it’s too early to tell sex, but aren’t they just so sweet?! Breeder didn’t mention anything about genetics, but I didn’t ask (hobbyist/homesteader only here). I’m thinking they are: wheaten, black, lavender and splash/blue. Can’t wait to watch them grow!
For the heck of it, and because I was so amazed/fascinated by the colour/personality transformation of my chicks as a first time ever chicken/silkie owner, I present to you ‘the muppet gang’.
Grow up/gender reveal at bottom of post in case you want to guess!
