Ordered “mixed breed” breeders choice from porters (I love me a good surprise and poults for $5 is hard to resist) and now that they’re starting to get adult feathering I’m trying to get color IDs on most of them. Some of them are pretty easy (we got two white hens) but there are a few I’m...
We just recently got a Tom from a friend who couldn’t keep him anymore and I’m wondering what color he is. I’m pretty sure he’s a marbled slate but I haven’t seen one before so I’m not totally sure.
Anyone know anything about the painted varieties on porters website? Didn’t find much about them anywhere so was curious if anyone here knew anything about them.
I have four 8 week old poults that are either calicos or royal palms. So far none of them have red/brown, only black streaks. Does this mean they’re all royal palms or is it too early to tell which they are?
Several days ago I had poults hatch from some of my hens that I had hatched last year, which I have identified to be golden Narragansetts. They were bred to a Royal palm Tom this year, and now we have the poults. There are currently 5, 4 are all white downed so most likely royal palms or calicos...
I have a group of turkeys I hatched earlier this year; They’re all around 4 months give or take, at this moment I suspect all of the pictured turkeys are toms. All are about the same size, they’re a mix of either gold Narragansetts, regular Narragansetts, red bronzes, or regular bronzes.
My turkey hens hatched out some poults, and I got curious as to what color they might be so I ran stuff through porters and they were sexlinks (bourbon red hen x royal palm Tom = red bronze males and golden Narragansett females according to the calculator) I assumed that they’d look identical as...
I’m at a bit of a loss on what to do here. We got our chick order about a week ago and I noticed a chick not doing great today. After further inspection I noticed it walking funny so I took a look at the legs and it became pretty apparent what the issue was. There’s a bend in his upper leg. At...
I managed to get some of my turkey hens to sit on eggs (first year having turkeys) and some babies have hatched. My coop set up isn’t really chick friendly so I took them inside (brooding some other chicks I happened to get the day the poults hatched) and I noticed a strange little poult I had...
I let the feed store get the best of me again 😔. They had a bunch of bantam chicks labeled as pullets so I got some. I’m fairly certain I have a silkie, two sebrights, and what I think is a lavender Cochin? Here’s pictures
I got a bunch of chicks out of a bantam bin, after asking an employee they were from ideal. I thought I had all of them id’d correctly but after a while what I assumed was a mottled OEGB (it was either an OEGB or a JB, but ideal doesn’t have mottled JBs) started making me suspicious. She didn’t...
I got a sebright out of the bantam bin (asked an employee and they’re from ideal) and instead of a rose comb it has a single comb. I’m guessing cockerel based off of the wattle size plus redness, but the last sebright I got was about the same and I thought for sure it was a little cockerel, and...
I have an Australorp hen, she’s always had white leakage. I gave her away when she was 3 years old, and now getting her back because she’s slowed down egg production. I remembered her having white leakage, but after getting her back, she looks mottled almost? What’s going on here?
I got some Brahma chicks from a local feed store, they were labeled as light brahmas, but the chicks were chipmunk patterned. I chalked it up to them being mislabeled but recently I’m not sure. This is how they’ve feathered out at 7 weeks old. This is the first time I’ve had brahmas so I wasn’t...
My neighbor offered me two mixed breed chicks, and when I asked what breeds they were she told me she didn’t know which rooster it was, or what breed the roosters. They’re hatchery somethings, and the mother is a hatchery buff Orpington.
