I’ve noticed over the past few weeks that my Ameraucanas have bare patched at the base of their backs where their tail feathers begin. Some worse than others. I’m trying to figure out if 1) they are being pecked on by other chickens, 2) they are plucking them out by themselves, 3) molting - at...
Do I have to use 1/4” mesh hardware cloth to keep mice out? We have 1/2” hardware cloth and still got a mouse in the run. My husband says a mouse can squeeze through 1/2”. Is that even possible?
I have three French Cuckoo Marans who are 16 weeks old. I thought by now it would be perfectly obvious which sex they are. To me (newbie) they look like girls, but the behavior of one makes me think it’s gotta be male.
At 16 weeks anyone think one is possibly a roo?
Here are photos of my black laced gold Wyandottes. They are 6 weeks old today. The first one is my little sweetheart! (Please be a pullet!)
(I have just 3 chicks here. There’s 3 pictures of each)
I received my Brahma chicks this morning. One had pasty but which I loosened with warm water and the vent is now clear, but the poop appears to be dangling from its umbilical cord. I’m afraid to reunite it with the others because that big white poop will be hard for the others to resist pecking...

This chick is still eating and drinking, and can stand short amounts of time.
It...
We have 10 chicks that hatched April 12, shipped from Cackle. We’ve had them for three days now. Everything has been great until today.
First off I found a bloody mucus poop, I posted about it earlier today and I started a 5-day course of Corid. I’m not sure which chick had that poop, but I do...
Hi, Newbie here. We have 10 chicks under a week old from Cackle Hatchery. All have been doing great until first thing this morning, we found that one little Ameraucana is lethargic and sits wobbly. On the other side of the brooder we also found a red mucous poop, and a “thing” next to it that...
Due to availability, on April 12th we have 9 chicks coming ( 3 each of Black Ameraucanas, Black Laced Gold Wyandottes, and Cuckoo Marans. Then on April 27th, we‘re getting 3 Buff Brahmas.
I’ve been reading here about the risk of new chicks being bullied by chicks two week older.
But because...
