Does backyard chickens have a plugin or api or something? I would like to directly incorporate it into my farms website. There is no reason for me to create a forum or re-create the host of knowledge this company already offers. That coupled with the fact we don't sell any of the same products...
If one was to try to make a landrace chicken breed... how does one control the rooster problem?
See the goal would be to let them adapt, right? BUT If you limit them to say one rooster, does it not stagnate the results? Causing a bottle neck on the male side?
How does one balance these issues...
Free range my chickens, don't add any outside genetics and just keep incubating the survivors...adding enough chickens to be able to absorb the loss to wildlife...Could I create a free ranging breed suitable for my very specific area? I live in the Appalachian mountains... very similar to the...
This is Richard. Richard is a dick, not a cock. He likes to sword fight with my wife... picking up sticks in his beak and swings it. He learned it from me, this is because he is a dick. He liked to attack myself and my wife, as such I picked up a stick one day and gently smacked him with it...
Had a hen, she was 2-3 years of age. (Polish) My only polish, as it was a rehome of a batch of a lady who gave up (due to predation).
She did great, was actually top hen (Mean lady, to other hens GREAT with humans).
About two days ago, she stopped walking. I checked the crop, nothing...
Was doing this early seasons chickens, produce about 300 every 18 days. I have ducks (Pekin) and accidently threw it in with the batch and its viable (and roughly 19 days). Noticed when I moved one batch over to the hatchers, its so far along I would feel like crap aborting it. Can I raise a...
I had a light brama, first year get attacked by a neighbors dog. Most chickens, I have had that took injury tended to not make it.
We brought her in, she slept for two days and on day three started moving around. This is day 5 and she has got fully comfortable and moves around the house...
TLDR/ I need extreme bite-proof gauntlets/work gloves for the hand. (Don't think cow leather will work).

Hey, been raising my own Mangalica (Boy) and...
New to pigs, we are raising two breeding pigs. Magalista (Boy) x Hereford (Girl)
When weened they have had zero direct contact with humans. As such, we tried bribing them with treats (Marshmallows). Worked great, however the girl started jumping on us while we were feeding them and we did not...
I have a 50'x25' chicken run, with a metal coop inside. I tend to open the gates and let the chickens/ducks/geese free range. In the fruit orchards during the day, coop at night.
Think if I added a internal hot wire (electric fencing on the bottom of the run walls) I could house two, 10 week...
I have the sweetest roo you will ever see, comes when called and is never mean to myself or the hens... Likes to be hand fed/petted. Issue is, he is so large when he mounts them it causes their back feathers to come out. He is a Light Brahma... Any solutions? They don't seem to notice/care but I...
We have a few Cayuga ducks, Chickens (Mixed breeds, also pure road reds, australorps and light brahmas) and Chinese white geese.
They were born starting 5/22 and ending on 5/23.
Think we will get some eggs from these before they stop for the winter? I keep their light lit with orange light...
I normally go by tail feathers/comb/wattle, but these don't produce those very fast at all... in fact at around 4 months of age (6/1/2024 hatch date) none of mine seem to have tail feathers.
P.S. I free range mine, the run is just used for breakfast/dinner before I take them into their coop for...
Before you come spamming my thread with 1000's of posts I have read, googled... I know the basics and I am looking for a more advanced answer.
I know, artificial light CAN keep them producing eggs in the winter AND some view it as a non-good thing which is fine.
I know, red lights don't seem to...
Someone who isn't me (SWIM) found a Big Brown Bat Pup, hairless and they already are up to date with rabies vaccines. SWIM, knows the local wildlife agency will just no-life the bat pup. There is no way to put the pup, back where it's "nest?" was. It was a busy bridge of a interstate. Would it...
Went into my local TSC today and they had these(geese) and a bunch of other unique finds.
They were sold as assorted breeds, they look like pekin ducks to me and as such I think they may turn into those white Chinese geese... but I have never raised any geese. So any guesses or matter of facts...
I have a chick that I put in an old incubator to test (ran another incubator with it). I guess it ran a little warm as the baby hatched early out of it. Will be fine in a few days when more hatch from my main incubator (ran it at same time)(using stuffed animal and mirror now)... but as it is...
I was accidently given a now (identified by the hatchery) a Cream Legbar. I assume this means he is a blue gene carrier (he was was supposed to be a pullet green egger) Does this mean if I mated him with a brown layer, it would make green egg babies?
I don't think I would do this for ethical reasons... but I have 660 acres of woodland. My incubator setup, pumps out 270 chicks/18 days. If I selected the best possibly free ranging breed and If I cranked everything to the max, raised them til close to maturity and released them to free range...
I have a run that is 25'*50' and a coop that is 10'*10'*10' (2x4s at around 8 feet of height and lower). They are staggard so I can make use of all the up and down space. I would still like to be able to walk under it, so I don't want to fill ALL of the room in with nesting bars. Most standard...
