Hey there, super new to goats and farm animals in general!
This is my ff doe, Alice, who we paired with a Buck in Feb when she was 9 months old.
However there was an incident back at the end of December where a buck got loose and spent some time in the doeling pen. We hadn't thought he managed...
I believe most (other than 4, who I think is a hen) are roos. Unsure of 6 also. What do y'all think? Range from 13-14 weeks old, and a mix of EE's, Pumpkin Hulsey, Leghorns.
Just found my 4 week old chick limping, it's leg stuck out at a sharp angle, unable to use it. Seems to be the hock joint, which is swollen. No idea if it's broken, slipped a joint or dislocated. Vets near me won't see a farm animal.
I have Popsicle sticks and medical tape, maybe I can splint...
These two are 12 weeks and from the same clutch. Thinking the black one is a hen and the other one is a Roo. They're half Australorp, wondering if anyone can tell what the other half might be?
Hey there! So these guys just turned 8 weeks so I know it's still too early to know for sure. But wanted to see if any of y'all have any educated guesses? Honestly, I can't tell until they're about fully grown, but do any look particularly "roo"ish or "hen"ish?
Also, they're almost all barnyard...
So the rooter is a Pumpkin Hulsey. The hen possibilities are:
Ayam Cemani, Rhode Island Reds, Gold Phoenix, Crevacouer, Spangled Russian Orloff, all varieties of Jersey Giants and Brahmas.
Chick came from a medium-sized light-tan egg. Its pale yellow with some dark spots, though it'll be clearer...
My eggs that were shipped to me across the state just started hatching. As expected, most didn't make it to lockdown. This is one of two ayam cemani to make it. The first is doing very well, but the second is puny and weak.
It was the fourth to hatch, and had trouble from the beginning. It got...
Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. I've read that purple comb could be a sign of poor circulation/heart condition, but a few others have said that it could also be hormones depending on how purple it is. So I wanted to double check with you more knowledgeable folk!
What do you think? Normal?
Around 5-7 months old, we believe. Very passive and rarely crows. Some breeds from the farm he came from: Copper Marans, Buff Orpingtons, Easter Eggers, and Amerecunas.
Just curious! :)
Day 5 incubation, the furthest along show veins and heartbeat. But these two look like this.
Unsure if I should dispose of these or let them incubate just in case there's a chance. What do you think?
I have questions about two of my feathered children.
One is my Buff Maran's toes. I actually thought his toes were normal (as they were the same on both sides and looked like this since he was chick) until someone pointed them out. It doesn't seem to negatively effect him, but wondering about...
Hi guys! This is my first flock of chickens, just want to make sure all is well.
For some background:
When my chickens were 16 weeks, I gave them to a relative to look after because I needed to travel. Came back a month later to find them in horrible condition; they'd been locked in a dark...
