Hello! This is my second year having chicks so my first time integrating chicks. I have 10 adult hens, 2 12ish week old chicks raised by a broody in the main coop, and 8 chicks that are 7-12 weeks old that I raised in a brooder in my garage. I acquired a second (smaller) coop and built a run...
Hello! I had a broody mama this spring and so I gave her two chicks (I don’t have a rooster). She quickly accepted them and was a fantastic mother. She raised them in the coop alongside the rest of my flock. They are now 11-12 weeks old and have been trying to sleep in the nesting boxes every...
I have a newly installed coop and run for my grow outs. It shares a fence with my main coop and then there is a door between them too so once the chicks are acquainted I can open the door to integrate them. My question is this ramp, and bedtime. None of my chicks (3-7 weeks old) utilize the...
Decided I want a frizzle. Ideally an Easter egger, but open to other options. I do not have any bantam birds so really just looking for standard. I know I could order one from a hatchery, but I already have so many chicks in my brooder that I’m hoping to just find the one I want. TIA!
I noticed one of girls is missing feathers and looked red. Is this normal molting or some kind of pest? Close up of some feathers that look like there are maybe lice eggs or something possibly? My hens are about a year old. These are my first chickens. Thanks in advance!
Took some pictures of my new chicks outside at their new (to me) coop today. Hoping they are all girls, but the little Salmon Favorelles has me questioning everything. The blue-laced red Wyandotte is also a big question mark (got it straight run), but probably too young to tell. Let me know if...
About 4 weeks old and my favorite little chickie! Just noticed today the 3-row pea comb that is often indicative of a little cockerel. Please tell my Cinnamon is a girl!
I know it’s probably too early to tell, but I bought this blue laced red Wyandotte (splash) straight run and have been obsessing over whether it’s a girl or a boy. It’s about 10 days old now and doesn’t have any tail feathers which has me a little concerned. Does anyone see any indicators of...
This is my friend’s salmon favorelles chick. It’s a little over 2 weeks old. I have one the same age, from the same Hatchery, and it looks different. This one has shorter, darker wings and no tail feathers yet. Is it a boy?
I have 4 chicks that are 6-7 weeks old and definitely coop ready, but I have one that is maybe 3.5 weeks old but likes to hang with the “big girls”. They haven’t been sleeping under the brooder plate and have been spending full days outside. I want to leave them in their coop overnight but am...
I have two chicks being raised in my coop by a broody mama. I got them from a local feed store - supposed to be sexed barnevelders. But one is bigger, lighter color, and has a larger comb. Is it just differences in individuals or is one a little cockerel?
I have a lavender Ameraucana and a lavender Olive Egger. Both hatched 3/21 so coming up on 12 weeks old. No crowing yet but I suspect both roos?
Here is the olive egger:
And here is the Ameraucana:
Appreciate the help. Really hoping at least one is a pullet but those red combs…
I have a flock of 12 pullets (although there are a couple possible cockerels) that are all around 8-9 weeks old. I want to pick up another 10 week old pullet tomorrow. Will I be ok to just put the new pullet directly in with the existing young flock? She’s at least a week older than the rest of...
I know the whole point of sex links is that they are auto-sexing, and so this should 100% be a pullet, but “she” is almost 8 weeks old and has a large comb, wattles coming in, thick legs, spur buds…the whole deal. Makes me doubt the gender. Can someone please confirm that she is a female golden...
I’ve posted about this Delaware before, and opinions are pretty split. Anyone good at sexing them and have any idea if this is a cockerel or pullet? It’s somewhere between 8-9 weeks old.
Really hoping at least one is a girl. Hatch date of 3/21 so coming up on 8 weeks old. The Ameraucana definitely has a bumpier comb, but the olive egger is also pinking up and is SO SLOW to feather.
These two are the olive egger.
And these are the Ameraucana
Thanks for the help!
I have a flock of 12 chicks. All are about 6-7 weeks old. I have one lavender Ameraucana that I’m almost positive is a cockerel, but then three that I’m on the fence about. Please help!
Lavender Olive Egger. Supposed to be a mix of BBS Marans and CCL, but idk how they would get the lavender...
I have a bunch of chicks that I’m hoping are all (or at least mostly) pullets. Most of them came from a feed store, but a few from a breeder. They are all coming up on 5-6 weeks old, and are living in their coop/run full time now with some supplemental heat from a brooder plate at night still...
