Light brahma roos and Brahma-mix roos. All are just starting to crow.

These roos are all from my Light Brahma roo, Angus. He is a very calm, gentle roo and he takes great care of his hens. His sons are displaying same qualities. These roos can be purchased here at the farm. 5.00 for full Brahma roos and 2.00 for Brahma mix roos. All have nice feathering on legs.

Can I add the bantam ducklings in with the standard size ducklings?

They are all the same age, just a major size difference. I have them in pens that are right next to each other so they can socialize through the fence. Infact, one of the rouen ducklings is constantly sitting at the fence "talking" to the three bantam ducklings...and they like "talking" to the...

Hen has bloodied the tails of her babies...help me understand...

Ok, so it's a cochin hen that brooded and hatched 3 australian spotted bantam ducks. They are a week old as of this past weekend. Today when I came home to check on them, I see the hen grab one by the bottom, pick it completely up off the ground, the drop it. It was done pretty rough, and that...

Can poultry dust be used on hen that is brooding baby ducks?

My cochin hen just hatched 3 austrailian spotted bantams yesterday and I discovered today that there may be a lice problem...I saw them, UGH. So how old do the babies need to be to treat them and can you treat ducks with the same dust as chickens? I can't believe I found lice, I really work had...

This is my soon to be hen house....had to stop work on it today due to rain. We are restoring one of the old sheds that was already on our property using reclaimed/recycled barn siding from another project. Very happy with the results so far. Got a broody sitting on eggs now and hope to have...

Anyone have this problem after using pine tar???

I had to use pine tar on my EE hen because she was getting picked on pretty bad by one of my bantam cochins. Well, today I noticed that the bald areas have a yellowish waxy like substance on them and it's kinda gross...no smell or anything. But I'm afraid she might now be developing some kind of...

    What did YOU learn today?

I was a second grade sub today and I learned that I do NOT know how to write in proper cursive(I do now!) NOR can I sound out words phonetically. I have so much fun subbing at my sons school...the teachers there love their jobs and their children, too. Just a happy place to be. But let me add...

New to cochins...what type of covering for run floor instead of dirt..

...to keep their cute little bell bottoms(feathered feet) from getting so dirty? I know I don't want to put wood shavings because they stink when wet. I was thinking about a layer of sand(for drainage) then covering that with a thick layer of mulch? I need to get it done today because they are...

Fencing question for the goat experts...need opinions/ideas

We raised goats when I was growing up and fenced in about 5 acres of wooded property for them to clear out the underbrush. Well, now I want to do the same on my own property but really don't want to use barbed wire strands. What are some good/easy fencing ideas for goats that I could use in...

Your worst "surprise" that you found after houseguests leave...

Ok, here goes mine...a liverwurst wrapper that someone crammed into my catfood bin(formerly used as a tater bin, you know those wooden boxes with the hinge lid) along with their chewed gum...all of which was smeared all over my cat food bag and supplies...EEEWWWW! Nasty!

Gathered eggs today and guess what?

I forgot that I put them in my scrub shirt pocket...then added my phone to the mix...THEN leaned up against the counter when I came inside. Took me a minute to realize what the crunching sound was...then the wet feeling on my side...... The phone survived getting "egged" but I had a mess in my...

Do you think I need to get a rooster? Seriously, I need input here...

Please help me figure this out...OK, so I got rid of my roos, for a couple reasons...didn't have enough hens, one got too aggressive, then we were in the middle of a move and I really wanted my last one to have a good home with plenty of ladies. That left me with two hens that were buddies, Mrs...
