    Toulouse Geese Thread

I've just had my two Toulouse a few months and was worried when they began to fly but they don't seem to want to go too far. Hubby offered to clip their wings, but that just doesn't seem right. Do any of you worry that they'll go too far or just get themselves in trouble? One of mine landed...

    Growing fodder for chickens

NotAFarm, It sounds like you have a great system worked out! I tried doing something like this last year and I wasn't really happy with it. About seed: I have just a few hens and 3 geese. I feed organic mash. Would just organic seeds from my co-op be good to use? They are sold for human...

The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

oldhenlikes dogs and lalaland! Thank you for this info. I have so much to learn! I've just found this thread and have a lot to read yet! I'm feeding organic mash from Montana and truly believe in the 'natural keeping'.... My daughter is a vet (though birds are not her specialty) and this...

The African and Chinese goose thread!!

I'm in Southern NM and we don't get a lot of very cold weather but the animal water does freeze in the winter. I use the heated water buckets also for drinking water. I believe I got that tip from Miss Lydia. :-) I keep a kiddie pool and a stock tank (kinda like rubber or maybe a composite)...

    Toulouse Geese Thread

Thank you jtn! Yes, I believe they're still molting some. Not as obvious as when my 2 Chinese would molt leaving a sea of white feathers!. After losing my Chinese goose, I got these for my Chinese gander. I have the 3 of them in a yard next to the house for now to keep them separate from my...

    Toulouse Geese Thread

I have two hens (is that what you call the females?) since the first of July. They aren't as pretty as many I've seen on here, but I'm not into breeding or showing so that isn't really a problem. But I'm wondering if they are healthy. They do act ok. Someone brought them to me so I don't...

    Geese Feeders

I'm looking for a better feeding solution too. My feeder must be outside since there is no room in the small shelter. Miss Lydia I guess you mean you have to keep the chickens from climbing into the feeder because it looks like they could still feed from it...I have chickens too... And I can't...

Eselpee, you aren't too far from me. What breeds do you have? I just have 5 hens left from an original 8. That 'attrition factor' is hard to accept sometimes...
