ive learned that if you hang it about an inch off the groud it eliminates the cleaning time by more than half. we only need to clean ours out when theyre close to being empty then we scrub them just before filling everytime.

ive only heard of chickens eating their own eggs when they arent getting enough of the right nutrients, almost like they are eating them as a substitute or if they get fed raw egg. are they being eaten or just broken?
my chickens diet is mostly layer feed and corn. (cracked or on the cob usually) and theve been getting into our fresh garden cucumbers everyday. theyre eggs are always hard as rocks. and we cracked the 4th one ever laid today and it was a double yolk! hope this helps...
if you dont mind me asking..what do your boxes look like? we had some trouble with that too then we put a higher peice of wood on the front of the boxes so when they scratch and burrow they dont lose so many shavings. i think the carpet idea might be too hard to keep clean?

well we live in the country so the neighbors dog is not bound in any way, but he hardly ever travels to our yard.. plus the neighbors arent even home this week! my dog was the culprit but the neighors dog ate the hen im sure..the only thing i can do is wait for the neighbors to come back and let...
