    Chicken feelin' HOT,HOT,HOT!!

We have broke records for the past three day being over 100. Monday it was 105. I have lost 2 big laying hens since Tuesday. I am going to have to try that mister idea. We drilled about a dozen 4 inch diameter holes all over the coop, opened the doors and put wire in front of them to try...

Not that I know of. They have all seemed really healthy with no problems. Are these two hens likely to do this again?

    question about prolapse in hens

I just found another hen that apparently prolapsed an egg but I did not find her until after she tore herself getting it out and the wound was full of maggots. This is the second hen in that last 2 to 3 months that I have found like this. The first hen healed after about 1 month but I am not...

Three more babies hatched today. Two are alive. One never got to hatch before the hen pecked it on the head killing it. It would have been a pretty baby.

LOL...it is soooo addicting. I never expected to allow my hens to hatch eggs but now I am in love with my new babies. I have about 10 more eggs to hatch and have just decided to take them from the mother after they hatch. The hens have finally calmed down after trying to kill the one chick...

I am excited cause my tiny baby made it through the night. *happy dance* I checked this morning out in the nest and there is another egg with a hole starting so hopefully the mom will not try to kill that one and I can have another fuzzy friend for the one live baby I have now.

Thank you so much for the advice. I agree that I am just going to try and raise it. Hopefully it will have another feathered friend tomorrow. Until then I found some of the dogs stuffed toys to put in with it.

    now what

I let some hens go broody and so I let them set on some eggs. I went out day before yesterday and found a dead baby. Tonight I just went out and found a live baby but the mother began to peck at it. She would not quit so I brought it inside. My other chicks in the bathtub are huge compared to...

I have two broody hens laying on eggs....

about 2 weeks. I marked them about a week ago with a marker and keep pulling out the ones without marks. I will probably just let them lay and see if they hatch and hand raise the babies so that they are somewhat tame. Do I just pick them up everyday? My last set of babies were not this small.
