Yep I have a beautiful black barred female with bright yellow beak and legs an bay /amber eyes. Nice bright, active hen that lays a dark brown to pink matt coloured egg. Lovely bird. All chicks from the cross turn out black and yellow, with white head dot, boys with greater coverage. All...
Hi Guys
I'm trying to work out the colour genetics of a nice little cockerel I got from a Welsummer rooster over a bantam Black Langshan. When I use the calculator my results end up with black cockerels however the base colour is coming through. Perhaps the hen not homozygous black? Any...
Yay, thankyou Lacrystol, I had 5 eggs in the incubator that my son had put in to 'keep them safe'. I worked out they were about 2 week in to incubation. Humidity had been held at 40% and misting daily. I ladi them in the centre of my incubator as it is autoturn and had chick eggs in too. I...
Ok soincubated a new batch of eggs only from the mixed breed hen. I only have an Isa Brown rooster now as the BA went to chicken paradise due to flashing. First chick just hatched and it is white with black chipmunk pattern, very excited to see it again and perhaps narrow down the breed...
Well two female ducklings out of 8 eggs. Meant to be backyard quality Cayugas, so white chests and lower white jaw, very cute and couldn't possibly part with them. One has the most interesting white swirling/motling on its head and patchy yellow black face....love them.
Rechecked the...
Lacrystol, i read your web site an will try giving one of the methods a go. My third hatch had 8 eggs, first pipped day 25 and died, 2 pipped day 26 (1 unzipped partially then died and the 2nd unzipped completely then died with the shell stuck and still in it), 1 pipped day 26 and hatched day 27...
Checked it out with the phenotypes showing, it was really easy to follow. What would you call the type of markings on the mothers and the chicks wings. I know there are alot of genes in play, but unsure what pencilling etc really looks like?
Oh thanks for all the feedback. I think it is a pullet (fingers crossed anyway!).
I wasn't sure the Black Australorp sire was pure as I had both australop and plymouth barred rock hens in with the grandfather Australorp 9below) when the rooster was hatched. I didnt know if the extended black...
Hi
I have hatched a batch of mixed breed chicks. Had two roosters. Father was either a black australorp (possible not pure) or Isa brown. Possible mothers were: Isa brown, Plymouth Barred rock, Black Australorp or my beautiful mixed breed (rhode island red, newhampshire, barred rock cross)...
Hi Lacrystol,
I forgot about my thread after my bad hatching and had chicks hatching shortly afterward. Here is the update. I have a fan force incubator with autoturn function, humidity and temp control. I hadn't gotten a liquid thermometer at the time of hatch but think the incubator temp is...
Thanks will do....the rrest still in the incubator, two days over due, no internal or external pipping, not sure how long to leave them before calling it quits....
Just updating. I carefully opened one of the assumed dud eggs. The duckling was nearly fully developed, head nearly under wing, but large yolk sac and dead. Did gently open the next one after candling, membrane thick but well receeded and no movement or smell. Gnetley opened the membrane and...
Hi
I have incubated a dozen home laid duck eggs, I had the humidity at 55%, took down weights butthe most weight they lost was about 9%. Figured this out too late to make much difference and the air sacs were pretty small. Candling showed movement in all eggs at day 22, most appeared ok at lock...
