It's been awhile since I've been on here. Just wanted to share some of my spring babies. I'm still breeding silkies and LF cochins, just havent been on here for a bit. :)

I havent been on in forever, but I wanted to share some of my silkies this year. Im really proud of these two. They are steel gray with no pencilling. Im hoping to start a project with them.

No not yet. You have a couple more months, but, you seem to have a sizzle (smooth feathered silkie). I have a black hen like that. So watch for saddle feathers and hackle feathers to come in pointed if it is a boy. Could be a few more weeks before you see it though.

Well when your Oegb hoards your bantam EE and her daughter who is EE and polish's eggs, fathered by your bantam black cochin roo, you have no idea what is going to come out of little green eggs. I put them under a silkie who had more coverage for 10 eggs, and last night they started hatching...

Yes it's called broody molt. All of mine do it.

Silkies tend to hatch earlier than other breeds. I make broody lock down day 16. I stop taking them off the nest to poop (sometimes they go anyway) and put food and water right under their noses. I've had silkies hatch day 19.

Reuben turned into a very nice beardless roo. He comes from show stock, you should consider showing him.

The third one down is Blue Cream/ Porcelain. Crest taping is when you have to use something i.e. tape to put crests in pony tails to let them see better without trimming with scissors. I still haven't found something that stays in the poof to hold it up by the way. I need to find some little...
