    Dogs and chickens

I'm glad your training methods have worked for you, as mine has always worked for me for the past 20 years. I am always happy to share what has worked for me.

    Dogs and chickens

Some tips I'd like to share that have worked for me is to never offer, shake, play tug of war or make erratic movements with feathered squeaky toys in front of your dogs. It helps dogs not to catch birds. Also, if a dog is on leash near your birds and the dog starts getting excited, it is time...

    Dogs and chickens

GSD are indeed special dogs. They are very smart and pick up our every move so quickly. Your dog looks lovely. It seems like she is well trained as well, but I would just like to share a tip that has always worked for me. When having a dog intensely observing birds, I make it at least sit at a...

    Simplest way to increase flock?

I'd like to add a quick word about one thing to look for when choosing birds: MANAGEMENT. Look for how the seller manages his/her flock: 1- Is the area kept clean (as much as the chickens themselves allow for it:)? 2- Are you allowed in or in close proximity to the coop and run without being...

I had 3 roosters at one time, 2 of them heavy breeds. The other one was a tiny bantam mix, but he kept the other 2 in line and they never fought each other. Then the tiny one became human aggressive and was sent to the pot. Of the remaining 2, one died and the other became human aggressive. He...

    Cochin Thread!!!

Hi Bob! Cochins go broody often and are great mothers, but not the best foragers in my experience. Mine just love to hang around the feeder Perhaps keeping 2 of them to brood and raise chicks will offset the cost of feeding them. Good luck! Cochins are lovely birds.

Comment by 'poodlechicks' in article 'Mites & Lice Treatment And Prevention'

Good article! Several months ago I had a problem with scaly leg mites and wanted to try a more natural treatment. I had tried petroleum jelly before, and it took a long time of diligent treatment for a noticeable improvement, let alone all the sticky mess. I then read on a "lice and mite...
