Not sure. I have 1 mama who kept 2 of her 3 alive and well, and she still makes sure they get in the trees each night. I am looking forward to seeing how well our 'breeding program' will go in the spring. Perhaps I will be able to answer this qiestion then.
*Pout* so, apparently, I have a not so good broody. She is great for hatching, but can't keep her chicks alive. This was her second hatch and both had great hatch rates. But she does not seem to maintain the protective instinct long enough for them to even get their feathers in. All 7 babies are...
I didn't ask them what breed. But I can't wait to breed him. I have a white girl with a tan neck that I think would put off some awesome color combos with him.
All my free rangers are buddying up to him. It will be interesting to see how tge girls react once they can see and hear him. (Right...
I can completely see our cats doing that. Although, the outage didn't disturb them near as much as the lightning strike so close that the sight and sound were practically simultaneous. That made my teenage son jump a mile. LOL.
Opa, you crack me up!
Reminds me of a night at work a few weeks...
We were part of the lucky group. We only lost power for 20 hours. Of course... just long enough that I couldnt get a shower before work. Yuck. First thing I did when I got home, after brewing my tea of course, was drown in the shower. There are downfalls to living in the boonies, and not having...
Thought I would let you know, Mocha is riding out the storm well. So far, so good. This warning passed without a tornado hitting us. Roo went into the garage to keep Mocha company.
Keep a watchful eye. This storm is headed your way, and it is strong.
Rain and wind all night. Had to turn off the heat because I couldn't breathe. And in the syrong winds warning area until 1am tomorrow. Moderate risk of isolated tornadoes. All I have to say is that if a tornado were to hit, it needs to wipe out my house really well so that I can build fresh, but...
Side by side on 2 and 3, I would guess 1 M, 1 F, but I would be hard pressed to guess which is which until those rooster tail feathers started coming in.
If I dodn't know them to be chicks, I would think Chick 3 had some turkey heritage. Lol.
I am useless in guessing sexes until they are teens. Except for my RIRxPR crosses... those I can finally figure out. (Only had to hatch a few dozen to get there.)
Those are Spanish for the numbers 1 through 4. Made me giggle. Mine have names like that. spot 1, spot 2, rainbow 1 and 2, pepper, funky black/orange 1-9, etc.
Sadly, I am probably younger than either of you, and if I make it half a mile of running, I am amazed. I used to run. Then this disease kucked into overdrive. Now, a half mile will nit only aggravate my tendonitis, it will start my muscles spasming for hours. Of course, if you saw me at work, no...
May be talking about me. I have been labeled the local chicken 'rescue' around here, and it never surprises me to come home to find more birds. Got 7 from my sister's tenant who left them behind, 16 from a family friend, and my original 15 were from a couple getting out of the egg business...
Tried to post this a few days ago, but the phone wouldn't cooperate. Of course, now, there is powdered sugar on the ground, even though this pic is less than a week old.
I am proud, though. Mama is doing really well. Fun watching her go nuts on any of the roos who try to even eat from the same...
I haven't found anywhere close to take them to.
I don't bother plucking, just skin like you would any other animal. It's the gutting that takes time, making sure not to puncture the bladder, and getting all the yucky out with such a small chwst cavity on non-meat birds. Meat birds have, in my...
