Chances are, she will accept them, but make sure you are there to be sure.
The mama hen *should* protect them from the other chickens, but again, watch to be sure. You should know right off the bat in the morning if it's going to be a problem. If the chicks are running all over the place and...
I ordered tons and tons of chickens from Ideal last year. Probably over 700 (sold most of them). You won't be sorry.
Some of the cheapest prices you'll see. The only thing that is a cheaper price per bird is Cackle's Hatchery Surprise (depending on how many birds you get, of course!).
I...
I would assume that it just depends on whatever they happen to have left. It appeared that last week they had a bunch of extra pullets, as they had a nice last minute special for them on Wednesday. So I assume they just sent you extras.
I have always ordered in lots of 25, as that's the...
Both. I sell as many of the chicks as I can. And the ones that don't sell (or ones that caught my eye for some reason) I keep. Some will be sold at a poultry auction if I think I can get some good $ for them (like when I have a pair of something), and the rest I keep.
Got my last (though I've said that a few times already) order of chicks placed. 50 of the crested. They should be here Thursday. I got a pretty good assortment last time, and I'm hoping for another one!
I've placed about 13 or 14 orders this year. 3 from Cackle, 1 from Moyers Chicks, and the rest from Ideal - around 700 birds total. One order had several dead/dying birds, but that was due to the USPS putting A/C directly on them. Other than that I think I've only had one bird that arrived dead...
I never got much variety in regards to kinds of birds - my first Cackle I got 2 ducks and a turkey. My second one I got 2 ducks. My third one only chicks. But I've always gotten quite a variety of chicks!
I have never ordered from them, but I've seen several times people posting horrible experiences with them here. I would try calling them, repeatedly, and tell them you are demanding a refund, and ask them why they never contacted you when they didn't ship the order as promised. Keep calling...
I've ordered 3 of the surprises from Cackle. I was very pleased. For mine, they seem to send them in groups of 2 or 3 of a kind. So there was lots of variety. I sold enough to pay for it each time (or came close to it).
What do you sell your chicks for?
And start worrying when the estimated arrival date is a day or two too long... (but not to worry, because it's always off, and it comes on the correct day that its supposed to)
With Cackle I'd get my tracking # e-mailed to me Monday night, and it would have the arrival date as Thursday - and...
Did you have any luck with the eggs? I ordered 40+ guinea eggs, and I ended up getting 3 to hatch. Half were either infertile or got shaken too much in transit. That was my first and last time buying eggs through the mail! But other people say they get them in the mail all the time with no problems.
I've ordered nearly 700 birds this year :-) How's that for chicken math?
I got one of those feather legged specials a month or so ago. Got lots of cochins, a silkie, a few d'uccles, some brahmas. Now they've started offering the cochins, silkies, and d'uccles as separate specials, though...
That's funny, because all 3 packages I got from Cackle were all sent 3 Day Priority, not express. For each one I was e-mailed a tracking #. The tracking # would show the item being accepted at USPS Origin Sort Facility, and that's all it would show until after delivery. Check later on the day of...
No, they are tracking #'s. You can enter it in USPS.com and it will tell you where it's been, but none of that is usually updated until after you've received it.
If you want more, sign up for their e-mails and add them on facebook. The last few weeks they have had a d'uccle special - $1.05 each, but you have to buy 25. But act quickly because it seems to sell out quickly. They usually list the specials Thursdays.
Neither Ideal nor Cackle provide a list. The only hatchery I've heard of that does so is Sandhill, and that's only because they say so on their website. But half of the fun is trying to figure out what you got!
The reason they don't is because they just don't know. Ideal explained how they do...
Here's two of them. They are 47 days old today. I put them out a while ago, but my next batch I will wait until they are big enough not to fit through the fencing. These guys are big enough to be outside the pen.
