I love my Salmon Favorelles. I have never tried putting them in a smallish cage though. Kinda goofy, super sweet and put up with being handled quite well. One of them even does somersaults to escape our Ameraucana who can be a bit of a cranky lady.
I keep mine in galvanized metal garbage cans, which (so far) have not been broken into. Be careful that the garbage can lid doesn't have holes around the handle because water does get in. Silicon does work for plugging if you can't find a lid where the handle is welded to the outside.
