Update on the three hens...the EE decided to steal some eggs to sit on. I decided to go back to check on the chickens for some odd reason. I'm glad I did. I found a newly hatched and very cold chick abandoned, and the EE piled back in with the others. I honestly thought the chick was dead. But...

Prior to this year, I had my trusty barred rock hen that was a wonderful broody. Sadly she passed early this spring. I was curious if I would have any replacements, but slightly thankful because I am out on space from adding dorkings. My two barnevelder hens have stubbornly decided to brood for...

    B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

This late in the year you will have a tough time. I was put on several lists in January and still didn't get in line fast enough. What type of dorking are you looking for?

Oh how I hate waiting for eggs to hatch. Should be between now and tomorrow. I have struggled so hard with this batch with humidity. I am so scared they are not going to make it, just because I went through so much to get these dang eggs. I like this so much more when it's my own eggs of endless...

Anyone hatch out in cartons? I believe @NanaKat does.... This is what I'm rigging up. Look right? It's my first time trying the carton and this is an important hatch!

    Rabbits!

I had rabbits as a child and recently bought two for my daughter. I have kept them previously inside and litter trained or outside in a large hutch. Inside is not a permanent solution here, and where I live gets extremely hot in the summer. I was just wondering if anyone here has any experience...

Sad day here. I just candled my eggs (it's day 11) in the bator. Of the 24 dorkings, 6 were blank and 6 early deaths. Of the 13 Ameracaunas... Only one is developing. I really hope I don't loose many more :/

Anyone familiar with showing chickens? I grew up in the north ( I got out as fast as I could! lol) and we didn't have Ag programs but I wish we did. I spent all my time in horse barns, and never knew about 4H until I was an adult. I am woefully lacking in knowledge of how to get involved. My...

A co-worker gifted me with her sketch of chicks for my birthday. I thought this was the perfect place to put it. Maybe it will encourage a good hatch! I candled the americauna eggs I had shipped. I only see one or two maybes. :/ but it is only day 7. I grabbed four of my dorking eggs for a...

Question for yall...I sell my eggs for consumption...my layers pay for themselves! :) yesterday I was asked if I would consider selling hatching eggs from my SL wyandottes. I was planning on branching to this area in a year or two. I have no idea how to price. I don't want to ask to little and...

I have a hovabator--- the genesis 1588 and added the turner. At day 18 I removed the turner. Added more water to the second part of the tray for more humidity and the chicks hatched in it. Great big window to watch "bator vision" with my daughter at hatching. Very plug and play--- just plug in...

@NanaKat I love the idea of using the turner. The eggs were placed in the mail on Monday. I would hope they were freshly collected but.... Well not everyone is as nice as me. The lady that sent them packed them very carefully and was very prompt. I can tell they are from multiple hens due to...

    Incubating Shipped Eggs

I am having the same quandary. My careful planning didn't work and part of what I plan on setting arrived by mail, the other part in picking up Saturday. I'm not sure how long to let these shipped eggs sit before I start them. I've decided to use a turner...it keeps them relatively upright- and...

Glad to hear everyone is ok. Question for you experienced hatchers out there. I received my ordered Ameracauna eggs yesterday. They are resting and I hope some air cells return. :/ I am driving to pick up dorking hatching eggs in Arkansas Saturday with the intent to set them on Sunday. I am...
