I
Thank you for your advice! I do think it is a reproductive issue and I’m at fault for giving her too many sunflower seeds.
I gave her a epsom “bath” (she stood in 3” of water while I cleaned off her poopy feathers and then rinsed) and some crushed tums in yogurt.
She is keeping her tail...
My 1 yr old Easter Egger stopped laying about 3 weeks ago except for a couple with hardly any shell. Most recently there were 2 that looked liked chewed up paper and came out with poop. Her poop has been sticking to her, too.
Yesterday she was lethargic and had trouble flying to the coop...
Has anyone noticed if larger EEs end up being boys? I have 2 that 7 weeks and one has always been bigger and dumber:Monk
Adrian, who is smaller, sweeter and smarter:
Here they are together - Monk on the right sits back on his legs with his huge feet out:
Just wondering if anyone had noticed...
Thanks for the advice. I turned off the lights and ignored her and she settled down.
Her crop was decent size, so it wasn't that she was hangry.
I think she wants to be outside and it is time, so I moved them out in their new little coop today.
Thanks again.
I have 2 6-week olds and have been taking them out during the day for weeks now. Today they were very happy under a bush all day and didn't want to come in until dusk. They had water and food but maybe not as much food as other days.
The bigger, stupider one is now screaming nonstop until...
Chicks being checked out by the Wheaties. It was a little cold in the shade, so put the light out too.
I love the rabbit cages for chicks because I can use the top to let them be outside part of the day. Also I can put perches in the bars.
I haven't posted in forever but with new chicks this year I've back on the site. These EE girls are 4 weeks old and first time out of the cage exploring.
These littles also LOVE baby kale even more than mealworms. I have a video I'll try posting. Does anyone have a favorite trick for...
Penny went back out to join the rest of the flock today and is spending her first night in the coop!!
We transitioned out of the urgent care (kitchen) to the back room infirmary on Tuesday. I had a nest box, the perch over a produce box from Costco and the repurposed cat box for her dust...
Wow, she does sound bad!
I am no expert but no one else has piped up so I'll tell you what I did when one of my hens had labored breathing as a stop gap:
First day/night: I brought her inside, set up a humidifier and put Vicks vapor rub on her feet/legs and under her wings.
The next day I...
It is hard to tell one from another! And what are the relevant bits to take into consideration. I didn't mention in this thread that she had been attacked prior to her poop changing color to that very scary yellow.
Soooo, I broke down and took her to the vet.
She said that Penny's...
Her last egg was 4 days ago and it was lighter than usual - more blue than sea foam green.
I don't feel bloat but maybe squishy abdomen. She feels hot and often has her beak open. Her comb is bright red now, tho it was pretty pale when I brought her inside.
One of my chickens hadn't been feeling good (spending a lot of time in the coop and in the nest box) for about a week and now she has these weird yellow poops that look like Blackhead Disease (from the other weird yellow poop thread):
I fed her an egg, some grower kibble, BOSS and dry meal...
Hi NorCal peeps!
It's been awhile since I've been active here. I first joined when my girls were new - 3 yrs ago, I think. I live in Davis, but my parents recently bought a farm up the Capay Valley in Rumsey, so now I have more options for more chicks!! I am setting up a free range situation...
I put her back outside after another couple hours with vaporizer on and no weezing/gasping. She drank a bunch of water and then went to the nest box.
I'm hoping it really was the combination of environmental factors and the vaporizer helped wet down the DE.
If not, at least I have all the...
One of my hens got dry fowl pox last month. I though it would go thru whole flock, too, but it just got the picky eater and a few spots on the bottom hen. I give my girls onions and spinach in addition to regular food. When I started making Penny, the picky eater, eat some onions and added...
That sounds complicated, but the first thing I see is the Gatorade. All that sugar can't be good for them. And you didn't say what vitamins - NutriDrench is probably the safest thing to give and easy if you have a gallon sized waterer.
It is really bad that you can't get the sickest ones to...
