I do not know the laws there, but my mother lives in Valpo. I could get her involved, and she loves a good fight.
Visiting Valpo, the big thing I noticed is the sprawling. Government love to spread laws/ordinances. Valpo is as big as the entire county I live in.
Just wondering what members breed for production. Be it meat or eggs, of pure bred "Heritage" birds. I'm not interested in Cornish crosses, production reds, or cuddly easter eggers who wear hats, etc...
There is a great discussion thread here...
So week 4 update.
Weights are starting to separate by sex. Birds are almost fully feathered and have been moved out to the main coop.Bodies are feather covered, just a little down yet on the heads. Most cockerels are very obvious by now with red, tall, combs, thicker shanks, and body...
A lot of times depression is due to an imbalance, but nowhere near absolute. People can get down because of money problems, losing a loved one, health issues, just plain old getting old. There are a number of reasons for it, and many different treatments for it. Sometimes it's anxiety that is...
Well, it is soggy in places when placed and frozen, then soggy when defrosted. There is a lot of liquid in a chicken.
No sanitary issues that I know of. Making bags is fine if you have the time, but paper and tape is easy, cheap, and fast.
Well, it's been two weeks since hatch. The chicks have been in the brooder most of the time with some play time outdoors since the weather has gotten so warm. Feeding 20% protein flock raiser crumbles only. Plain water.
Week 1: Average of 72.6 grams High 80g Low 64g
Week 2...
Like the email name. Fishing is one of my passions. If I could do it for a living I would.
Yeah, so the chicks originally came from http://eightacresfarm.weebly.com/ .
There is some variation in the stock for growth rate, but even the last place cockerel/hen beat all of my expectations...
You could always try a cross. If I were in your shoes, I would probably take the best two hatchery stock and put them with the best Cockerel and try to hatch a dozen eggs just to see what happens. My understanding is we don't always end up with what we expect. Crossing lines adds a lot of new...
Nice Thread.
We chose New Hampshires for our Breed for Sustainable production and show.
Starting from Quality chicks last spring, with plans to hatch 100 chicks this year. We got a late start, but hatched our first 25 last weekend.
From the original source of chicks, Cockerels averaged 7...
http://www.cornucopia.org/2015/12/scrambled-eggs-report-contrasts-widespread-industry-fraud-and-usda-complacency-with-true-heroes-in-organics/
This was a very interesting read this morning. If the article and reports are true, it seem the USDA is sanctioning fraud in the egg business in favor...
This feeder seems to work ok with pellets, but not very well with Mash. The food does not like to flow out into the trough for the chickens to get to it. It has to be shaken and twisted to get the feed to flow into the trough section. It has been replaced in the coop and relegated to back up...
