I tried that with my most recent hatching (can you believe I tried again??) - three roosters out of three hatching eggs. They did OK until they saw the hens in the run. Then the mellow one got trounced. Ugh.
Hi there... I apologize, I mistated, it should have listed them as Ameraucana not Araucana. If you are still interested, please let me know before tomorrow, Tuesday. The last two (1 dark Ameraucana X and 1 Salmon Faverolle X) are going to my neighbor for freezer camp.... They are 5 months old...
Anyone interested in a rooster? I'm trying to rehome the last of my roosters... 11 cockerels and 5 pullets, terrible outcome from my hatch!
Five months old now, three are Salmon Faverolle X Copper Marans and 1 is Light Araucana X Copper Marans.

I'm definitely interested in ideas from this thread as we've discussed a larger "run" area as well. We also have coyotes that circumvent the electric fence at times. Is there a way that won't break the bank to predator-proof aerial and ground dangers over large areas?
I had the same problem this week! My Australorp usually lays round coppery eggs, but I got an almost white one yesterday and was concerned. Guessing it might have been hers because of the shape -all 6 of my hens lay brown eggs. She has had a rough winter, frostbite and now the others are picking...

To-date, we have added 3 - 6" chimney vents to the high side of the ceiling, and 5 - 2" hole vents along the bedding level at the front and back of the coop. The girls are still getting spots of frostbite, and...
@Egghead_Jr, thanks for the technical explanation, it's very helpful. I have a couple questions/concerns.
My low side is mostly comprised of the two doors. Not sure there is room for vent holes (though I will measure!). Also, the hens are indeed almost at roof level on the low side. I do have...
