Junebuggena, and other experts, please weigh in.
I've raised Ameraucana and Easter Eggers. I did a last ditch hatch after I sold my "splash Ameraucana" roo. I know these are all Easter Eggers. That throws off my ability to identify genders. Rooster red shoulders always mean boys, right? I...
Good morning! I'm a week behind the Easter Hatch Along and wanted to start a smaller April thread. I set 106 eggs in my homemade incubator.
I have hatched before, but this is the largest group of eggs I've done, and they are all shipped to me so my methods will adjust for that reason.
My...
This is where I will post the notes and pics from my incubator builds.
Happy reading:
Recycled Materials:
4 sheets of Styrofoam packing material from a delivery
10 Gallon Aquarium ~20” x 12” x 10”
2 pieces 1” x 3” hemlock (siding leftovers) ~20” long
3 pieces plastic grid from florescent light...
Kitten has looked like a boy for a while. Early to turn red in the comb and wattles, and black chest feathers, and I think I see rooster red in shoulders and some saddle feathers. Someone on CL questioned whether he was a hen. Opinions, please.

I found out my Brabanter cockerel is quite fond of my barred hen and my BCM pullet. I'm trying to predict what the offspring would look like if I hatched them, but that pattern gene throws me off. I have had a hard time finding the details of the Brabanter genome other than knowing it involves...
I haven't found a forum dedicated to the Brabanters. I have 3 Cream Brabanters and I'd like to improve the breed. Rather than sharing the Spitz page we can gather here with pictures and genome and phenome discussion.
Here are my 3 examples. I'm going to expand to add several other lines in...
I've been reading a variety of resources and am struggling with what I should do. My chickens have developed a respiratory issue. I don't know what started it. I am guessing irritation from nesting materials, simple virus, or Chronic Respiratory Disease. I now have half my flock wheezing and...
I'm searching for hatching eggs from these specific breeds. I'd prefer to pick them up at Cobleskill at the ENYSPA Fall Show on 9/27, but if reasonable I will consider shipping. I'd like up to 6 eggs from each breed.
Buff-Laced Brahma. I'm looking for the lightest coloring large fowl. If anyone...
I know that Brahmas are difficult to sex early on. I have two buff-laced that hatched August 1st and this thread will have lots of pictures over the next several weeks to help identify their genders. These are from today. I'll get better close ups soon. The first picture has a Wheaten...
This chick was born first, checked out everything, and then called to its incubator mates to start hatching, so I named it Scout. It has continued its role checking things out. Any gender guesses? 3.5 weeks old (I know- too early) and a barnyard mix.
Hatched 8/1. I asked the breeder for Wheaten Ameraucana hatching eggs. She said they were pure. I'm not sure now that the chicks are two weeks old. What do y'all think?
Ok, my staggered hatch started yesterday and is getting pretty active right now. I'm trying not to mess with the incubator temp and humidity, but I worry. All the chicks are gooey and taking quite a while to fluff up. I did dry incubation and humidity has jumped to 77% during all this hatching...
