    Tiny eggs

I had a hen lay an egg like this three weeks ago...it looked like a Robin egg! It's only happened once though, I just assumed it was because she's a "new/recent" layer. I also cracked it open to see what was inside. And it actually looked like a regular egg, only the yolk was extremely small.

    Finding Chicken/homestead "babysitting"?

Whenever we have to go out of town, we're lucky enough to have our adult children living close by tend to the chickens and dogs for us. And their payment is done in eggs with no complaints.

    What food do you hate?

When we were growing up, our mom would get creamed corn...just open the can and heat it up. Yummy. NOT! To this day I will not eat corn of any type that comes out of a can. Oh, and beets. Like someone else posted, they tasted just like dirt. Which makes me wonder why anyone would soak hard...

    Actual olive egger egg colour?

Concerning egg color...just a heads up, not Olive Eggers will lay green eggs. There is a chance you can get brown eggs as well. I have five and my fingers are crossed that all five will lay green eggs when the time comes, but I'm fully aware that I might get brown as well.

HELP!!!! 12 chicks dropped dead within minutes????

If you cleaned the bin after you last used it or just before using it now, is it possible that there was some residue left on it? Depending on what you used to disinfect the bin, whether is was diluted bleach or some other product, if it wasn't totally rinsed off and left to dry, it could give...

    Diseases in my flock?

This is a pretty rude statement to make to someone that came on the forum asking for help. If someone is coming here for help and needs suggestions, maybe that's what they should get and not something like this that makes them feel bad about themselves or their parent. OP, you were given some...

Finding lost chick!? How can i locate her at this time?

If you have another chick, you could try to get it to make some noisy and this might bring the other chick out of hiding or at least answer back so you can locate her. Fingers crossed you find her safe.

What breeds of dogs do you have

Proud to be owned by an almost six year old Great Pyrenees named Oliver and a 15 month old German Shepherd Dog named River. Oliver is my first and only Great Pyrenees we've ever had and River is my fourth GSD. GSD's are my true love...but, Oliver comes in at a very close second. I feel that...

    Field mice

A field mouse may not be much of any danger to a chicken physically, but they can and do pose a threat with the spreading of diseases. And what they do spread can affect poultry as well as the humans caring for them.

    Rooster and a Guard Dog?

OP, I'm not sure the person that suggested the "shock" collar used it properly. Usually the collar will have three settings...beep, vibrate and shock. You would never go straight to shock while using it to train a dog. If you ever get a chance to get your hands on one of these collars, put the...

    Rooster and a Guard Dog?

Using a shock collar on a Great Pyrenees is going to be pretty hard...they'll grow a thick mane around their neck which would make it hard to place an electric collar on them correctly. Not to mention, if you don't know how to use the collar properly, you can do some harm to the dog. You may...

    Rooster and a Guard Dog?

A part of you decision for this breed should also be whether or not you'll be able to keep it from running off. If you don't have any fencing, your pup/dog will more then likely roam. And like mentioned before, these are very large dogs and not usually a first time dog owners choice. They are...

How do I keep my niehgbors chickens out of my yard?

Sprinklers might work for a while, but a bunch of determined, hungry chickens may not care about getting wet. Then you have the mess factor of clay soil. We live in the country and have a dirt/clay road that leads to our home and when it gets wet it's nasty. Can you imagine putting down seed...

How do I keep my niehgbors chickens out of my yard?

I would go with the idea of placing short stakes/posts in the ground and running bird netting from post to post. I would also make sure it's draped to the ground so the birds can't make their way underneath.
