    Hands on hatching and help

Sad news, he passed last night. Upon inspection he had something protruding from his abdomen. Looked like his insides on his outside. It wasn't unabsorbed yolk. I'm not helping the other two that aren't pipping. This is my fault. I had major temperature problems with my incubator and this is the...

    Hands on hatching and help

Here's a pic of the egg after I applied the coconut oil. The problem I see is that the chicks beak is pointing straight up in there. (Towards the fat part of the egg, top) I can see that the beak is through the membrane though. You see the blood? I can't mess with the membrane or it'll bleed so...

Thank you so much for responding! I did use a q-tip to dab a little moisture on the membrane. The chick is peeping. I have coconut oil so I'll go do that now. I did think the moisture was a bit high and the bator reading fluctuates between 68-75% but doubt I can trust that reading! I'm not...

Sorry for the extremely LATE reply! Haven't been on the boards in a long time. Hopefully you found where you could purchase this. I picked mine up at a local farm store. I believe you can get it at Tractor Supply too. It's very possible you WON'T find these in the chicken area of the store...

    Hands on hatching and help

Hi Guys, I have come here for help...good title for the thread, LOL, it's what got me here. I have had a DISASTROUS first incubation experience. Lets just say, I set a lot of eggs and I had ONE hatch yesterday (21 days was reached at 8pm last night), and one that had broke through the air cell...

One Chick Hatched Not Drying Off

I know!! :barnie I thought the incubator was at 99.5 degrees all along but now that I'm testing it with the other thermometer it's all over the place! Stupid thing I've bumped it down to 93 degrees to try to stabilize the temp. :he If any other chicks hatch from this thing it will be a miracle...

So I got a meat thermometer from my kitchen and stuck it in one of the tiny holes. It's reads 101.4 but shoots up to 108 when the heater comes on!! And my incubator says 98.9. I know my meat thermometer is calibrated. Lower the temperature on the bator?

Definitely a brahma! Check out those feathered feet. So yes, she was kinda sticky and a little fluff had started to puff out. Big Mamma just took her no problem. I candled the eggs under Mamma today and all are alive! Nothing like a broody hen vs. an incubator!

One Chick Hatched Not Drying Off

I think I'm going to make the call and pull the chick out and put her under broody Big Mamma. She has the "silblings" ready to hatch under her and she's an excellent Mamma. She's never refused a chick I've put with her.

I don't have a hydrometer but my LG says the humidity is 68%. I feel like it's to hot in there. I lifted the lid for a second to get a look at the chick and a puff of steam came out at my face. The little guff is sitting off to the corner breathing heavy but not panting. Both red plugs are...

Thanks! Not sure because I'm looking through a humid window? It looks like just hatched look to me. Not fluffing at all. I added a picture but of course it's not very clear through the window.

I'm brand new to incubating, first timer. I had one chick hatch sometime around 4am, it's now 12pm and it still looks damp not fluffy at all. Is this a DUH, because the humidity in the incubator and it won't dry off till I take it out? I have 11 more eggs in there that aren't popping yet and I'm...

I only have two silkie Roos soooo...the egg is hatching right now! Excited! Wondering if it will come out rumpless or not? Does this cross make it an...

I have a situation...long story but some of you may enjoy. Last year around the end of April my Chocolate Orpington went broody. I kept pulling her out of the nesting box and taking all the eggs as soon as they were laid but she just wouldn't quit!! She was looking awful and I was getting...

Sorry, I guess I was clear as mud! We aren't changing zoning at all. Just tax status. Two different things. Yes, urban "sprawl" is a HUGE...HUGE thing in Whatcom County! I hate how they are trying to control where and how people live!

It's county residential. Just outside city limits. Zoned UR4. We aren't interested in a license to sell as much as we are interested to get our property taxes reduced! Of course we would get any necessary licenses as required. And also, it's not a zoning change we are looking for, it's a tax...
