Sorry All, I have been away at training. I will post my setup over the weekend.
The swirl filter has been replaced with a Super Swirl filter that provides crystal clear water :)
I have never used an air pump, but I would assume it will be susceptible to the same problems that a water pump would be. My pumps are koi pond dirty water pumps that are specifically designed to process solid matter like the duck poop, dirt and food that ducks bring into the water with them...
Hello,
I have a beautiful white drake who needs a new home in the Southern California region. We have too many drakes and buck needs to be rehomed. He is a pet, not dinner, and is great at eating pesky bugs and plants :)
Thanks!
Can you tell me anything about this cross? Any unique characteristics or is it just random based on the genetic mix? Are they friendly, noisy (comparatively speaking for a goose) outgoing?
Thanks!!
Thanks everyone for the feedback and support. I'm glad I finally know what breed she is. Tonight I found a destroyed soft shell egg near where she hangs out and it seems bigger than my pekin eggs but it was fairly trashed. It's either moonscape or my adolescent khaki (cocoa puff) beginning to...
Alright! We are back from the vet with some news. The vet is not sure about the sex so we are going with a girl because we can :D.
The wing is broken or extremely dislocated but there isn't anything that can be done. It doesn't bother her so the vet said to let it go. There is a chance that it...
Got a couple of pictures of moonscape (his/her name) in the yard.
What's going on over there??
It REALLY looks more fun over there!!!
This pond thing is pretty cool!!
Moonscape sees the vet on Wednesday, she has informed me that it won't be the highlight of her week.
Both the quarantine pond/yard are within close site of the big pond/yard, and the ducks have done an initial investigation that ended with some tenuous quacks, but at least they know each other exist. Same deal with the night pen, there was a few honks last night but we have had a serious coyote...
I am most definitely not sure about the sex, that's what the feed store said but they weren't investing a lot of time in him/her. He/she is fairly tame and is tolerant of me sitting next to and talking him/her, so I gather it's been exposed to humans. She honks when I leave which leads me to...
Hello all! Long time no post.
I was at the feed store today and they had a goose that had been mistreated, abandoned and scheduled to go to the slaughterhouse. I decided he gets a reprieve and can live his life happily and Honkily in my duck yard. I gave him the quarantine yard and pond.
I...
I'm not an expert but I would surmise he might be eating some bad food or something bad for him. Bring him inside for a few days as an isolation measure and see if he gets better. Some vitamins probably couldn't hurt.
Ducks LLLOOOVVVEEEE treats, if you search there is a thread dedicated to treats complete with ratings.
Chicken wire has its uses but it's not designed to keep predators out, it's designed to keep chickens and ducks in.
Well it really depends on what your intent is. If you want good egg layers but don't care much about personality then Golden 300, White Layers, Khaki Campbells, and Welsh Harlequins are great choices, Muscovy's too.
If you want some personality then Pekin's and Cayugas are your pick. All duck...

@beneduck14
Im very sorry for your loss.
Based on your description of the duck being pinned against the wire, it sounds more like a raccoon or similar predator who are known for reaching through the wire and grabbing. I agree that birds are predators and it would be a massive coincidence but I have not...
