There was a time when Greenland was, well, green. And Vinland, that icebound corner of Canada, had grape vines growing on it. People walked on them then named them according to their salient characteristics.
The climate changes. Nobody is denying that. In this corner of Iowa it has...

LOL! You should have stored the bottle inside a trap instead of under the sink!!! That must be some GOOD stuff....
I keep two or three traps set and baited with the gel. If I'm not catching mice then I don't have any. If I am catching mice then I put out another dozen traps.
I'm...
Tomcat brand Gel Attractant is the good stuff as far as mice are concerned. I had a one-ounce dropper bottle of it under the kitchen sink and the rotten mice chewed the bottle open to eat the gel then they stole the empty bottle.
This is the stuff.

I have taken the liberty of fixing the quoting for you.

Your opinion, or a rhetorical question?
First, if you are depending upon the post office to bring you your new broilers every spring then you are not practicing sustainable agriculture. And if you can't get the parent stock for your flock then you are dependent upon the post office...
Hi, Meri. Thanks for talking about your varmint guns in my thread.
I trained quite a bit with the M16 at one point. Its semiautomatic equivalent is the AR-15. Once I get a few more pennies put together I will probably be getting an AR-15ish rifle of my own. That will stop a coyote in its...
I start talking to Little Girl, Little Girl, [. . .], and Little Girl (yep, all 12 have the same name because I couldn't tell them apart when they really were little -- or "were really little", if you prefer) when I come up to the chicken house. I take the eggs whether they are in the house or...

Take care, WyGirl, these are Fahrenheit degrees not Celsius.
90 degrees on the Fahrenheit scale is 32.222... on the Celsius scale. And 5 degrees of difference on the Fahrenheit scale is 2.778 degrees on the Celsius scale.

I took a quick look at Henderson's chook chart for winter layers in your flock, MeBo. What I'm seeing is your Red Sussex and Rhode Island Red pullets will do the majority of your winter laying; the rest will lay sporadically.
And again, welcome. We are enriched by your presence.

Hi, MeBo. Welcome to the site.
How long have they been laying?
If you go to this site, select your continent, then click on the nearest large city, how many hours of daylight does it show you have? 14 is the optimum; as the days get shorter the hens will slow down their laying.
What breeds...
When I am sick and feel like eating, I eat. When I am sick and don't feel like eating, I don't. I lost 5 pounds during this last bout with the flu.

I would like to gather eggs, rinse them, then store them in something a little classier than the cast-off plastic grocery bags I have been using. I'd like about three wire egg baskets, I think. Who has the best prices in them?
I do like the prices at eNasco, but I am wondering if it is...
Honestly, I like the tough membranes. That way when (not if) I get butterfingered in the chicken house and drop one I will only crack the shell instead of making a mess.
