Hi Guys!
Very long story short, had an emergency and had to bring my birds inside....I've always kept them in the sunshine and fresh air so this has been horrid. Right now they are on my wood floors with sheets of thick plastic and a lot of bedding...hay etc...I need a better solution. I don't...
Oh I just love the stuff! I thank my birds for pooping! Into a fifty gallon plastic garbage can that is full of worms and like magic, beautiful black sweet stuff that makes my potatoes grow to the size of bowling balls....if you don't garden yourself I'll bet you can easily find someone who...
We finally got a tractor supply here in No Cal and they only carried it for about the first couple months, apparently I was the only one buying it. I suggest going to a local feed store and talking to someone, if they know you will be a regular customer they will stock it for you, it's what...
Congratulations! Well done pancake! This is a rare amazing event so I'm glad you're getting photos and videos for all of us. Thank you for that and good luck!
I have predators here that make a good mesh floor a necessity! I found that a soft plastic coasted mesh keeps out the bad guys but doesn't bug my birds, having said that, I also cover a large area with grasses etc so they aren't on the mesh all the time. Use a really heavy duty staple gun...
Make sure the ramp is wide enough, they don't like seeing over the edges, little handrail type wood edges work well....I've had to install those when I've had daredevils that like to fly off ! Also, little treads are very much appreciated.
I've actually been studying this for years... there are amazing research findings! A paper out of Scotland a few years ago had some pretty remarkable things to say about the health benefits overall. Protein especially has been studied extensively.
As to allergies, I'm living proof. I've...
Congratulations! What a perfect baby!
Not only do I have a stool by my incubator, I keep it in my bedroom so they will wake me up and I don't miss anything so no shame! I've been doing this for years and every time it's still a miracle.....it can take so long your heart feels like its going to...
I would definably say yes to quail! I love mine so much for so many reasons...the health benefits of the eggs are amazing. Studies are being done all over the world and we are learning new things all the time. I started raising them because the man in my life almost died from a heart problem...
I wish I could look at something like that and have a great idea pop into my head, I have zero creativity but I'm always so happy for people who can do it, well done!
Oh I love it when they know how to do that! My doxie cross could keep one immobilized long enough for me to grab it by running around them in a circle and using her chin to tap them on the head. Luckily she didn't like the taste, the few times she instinctively grabbed one in her mouth she...
Quail are wonderful! They lay like crazy and they are just a whole lot of fun. I've been raising for eggs only for almost eight years now. Really the trick is to have a plan for all those Roos! I have some in my greenhouse and I offer them as greenhouse pets to other people in the area...
I've been using a combination for years now....I didn't want to use wire originally but a few factors caused me to incorporate it. I'm in Northern California and it rains about 300 days a year it seems. Rotting, mold, smell, all bad! Also, we have all kinds of critters trying to use the coops...
My understanding that by not allowing your birds to take a break from laying you burn them out and shorten their lifespan significantly. There is difference between having pets with names and having an egg business and no one can decide which is right for you. Best of luck!
Julia Child said never apologize if a dish doesn't turn out as planned...it's the same with baby quail videos! And I have hundreds so you are not alone! Your babies are perfect, be proud!
Sorry, but the whole, small cage is better idea doesn't sound right. I've been lucky I guess, in the seven years I've been doing this I've had minimal bullying but I think in part it's due to having plenty of space and always having multiple 'good spots' where they can get away from each...
