I’ve attached a photo of Miss Fluff. As you can see, she has whiskers, not feathers. When she molted last fall, she had worms and mites.
Yes. I feel like a horrible parent.
She was outside with the other chickens and I noticed her legs were badly sunburned.
What sunscreen is safe for...
I’ve attached a photo of her poop. I had to enlarge it just so it could be seen, the actual size is maybe a quarter of an inch. (4 millimeters.)
The rest of it is Mostly clear water.
She’s about 3 and has been laying eggs. I have her inside right now and away from the others. Her crop feels empty because she is on day 3 of eating nothing but liquid egg and drinking water.
She is always eager to drink water.
Even as little as she is eating, she is acting relatively...
I have a chicken who seems dizzy. She walks slowly and often has to take a step to get her balance.
She has feeling in both feet, as she pulls her feet away if I pinch her toes.
I have palpated her and she doesn’t seem sore or have any knots.
She has a normal crop.
She won’t eat anything...
It doesn’t look grey, it’s just constricted. I think she can see some light, but she does seem to be blind otherwise in that eye.
I had some eye ointment for my dog and out that in the eye.
I’ve used these as necessary for the last 5 years or so. They seem to work fairly well. I have not been able to figure out how to keep wattles warm, so no changes to design.
I just got some Silver laced Wyandottes who who has more of a Rose comb. I’m thinking I will make a 3 sided flat topped...
This is an article from University of Kentucky Extension Service about how to clean for bird flu.
Spoiler: bleach kills bird flu

I am tying these two posts together:
My Silver laced Wyandotte that I got from Murray McMurray hatchery has the same thing:

Holy cow. Found this thread from 5 years ago.
She also had silver laced Wyandotte from Murray McMurray Hatchery with the same feather growth. Now I’m wondering if this is genetic?

Not a silke: silver laced Wyandotte.
And I last wormed this summer.
Today, I put some ivermectin on her back for deplummage mites for lack of anything else to do. (I didn’t see any sign of mites.)
I’m absolutely flummoxed by this. ???????
All of my chickens had a heavy molt this year. Two hens lost nearly all their feathers at the same time. One is fully feathered now. The other seems to have cat’s whiskers growing in instead of her usual feathers. It’s really cold outside and I’m not sure what to do.
I’ve always wondered if there is a correlation between molts and weather. So, let’s gather some data.
Please list:
Where you live?
What breeds you have?
How much your birds molted this fall:
Then, this spring, we can look at the molts and weather and see if there is any correlation or if it is...
This baby did not make it to hatch, BUT, it did make it for about a week in the incubator (I verified it was moving) so I would call this a success. Mostly.
Next time, I would absolutely also use the donor egg white as well as the shell itself. I think it just ran out of padding, and I had a...
Ok. I didn’t have a lot of hope because there was a lot of drainage. But a day later, I did a cold water test and felt a kick!! I think next time I need to add some donor egg white to the baby as well! But so far, so good!!
My broody hen did NOT like the new nesting box I moved her to and refused to sit on her eggs. So I moved her back to the old box.
Came to old nest to get eggs and saw dog trying to eat one of the eggs. As I looked at the egg, the end was completely off and to my horror, the chick moved.
The...
I’m at a loss as to what to do. My Rooster doesn’t like to stand and will often lay down.
These are his feet. I’ve scraped down the black spots that seemed like bumbles, but under the scabs is soft tissue (not hard bumbles. Do I need to keep digging or is this something else?
