Thank you! I am studying Animal Science in prep to be a large animal farm vet. I left behind six MPE Silkie x EE crosses, one Cream Legbar, one barnyard mutt, two Brahmas, and one Olive-Egger (who lays brown eggs).
Good morning! I'm new to this thread (and I'd disappeared off BYC for almost 2 years) so hopping on to hopefully get back into it :) especially since I'm at college and had to leave my girls behind.
Not sure if this is in the subtext as well but if you string old, plain CDs (as in, silver on both sides) along the netting, it's a great deterrent for the hawks as well :)
I know, but it still makes me nervous they’re feathering at such different times. My other girls didn’t feather this way... but these are also my first meat breed
I have two almost 1 week old brahma pullets, but Ladybug isn’t feathering as fast as her sister. I know they are slow to feather, but Ladybug’s sister seems to be feathering a lot more normally if that makes any sense?
I’m not sure. Ladybugs wings are just much shorter than her sister’s. Not...
You think it was moth larvae? Well that's good! I'm glad they won't get worms. But Ive already started the dewormer, so I'll just finish it and then they'll be good for the fall
I usually only have yk buy 1 50lb bag every few months. the bag was a quarter full when it got infected... so not pre infested. weirdest of all is the fact that out of the 3 places the food is stored, the completely outdoor chicken feeder is the least bad.
Please help, all of a sudden all of my food has gotten a gray film over the top and smells sour, like lemons. It also moves around on its own and I swear I can see little worms, maybe maggots cause we have maggots??? What happened??? Will my chickens be ok??? I’m gonna deworm them
Welcome! Please tell us all about your birds!!! Feel free to private message with any questions!! Chicken keeping is easily one of the most gratifying and wonderful passions I've ever had. I hope you enjoy your journey!
They have free choice oyster shell already.
No, she’s laying eggs very irregularly. This is her first egg in about two weeks. Her poop continues to be very watery
This was my rooster Pike before we gave him away. He’s a purebred buff silkie x some other purebred (ik they are both pure bc he’s the product of a flock of birds all from a hatchery/breeder, just not sure who his dad is)
Anyway, it looks almost like if a standard and strawberry comb had a...
She’s all wet cause she just finished soaking, and after I took that picture she pooped which is the picture. She’s also getting 2 crushed tums every other day.
They are normal, hard-shelled eggs with zero discoloration or misshapenness. The yolk and white looks healthy and great too. The rooster is gone, and all her feathers are coming back very nicely.
No, she is not prolapsed all the time. She usually just has an inflamed/swollen vent, but if she’s...
