we have 20+ Orpington hens and chicks or various ages. it's canning season here and i am making grape jams/butter which requires removal of seeds. can i give the offal of the grape processing to my hens? i know you can give them grapes, but it's a little more than "a grape or two" - it's SEEDS...
this will be my first year attending the 2021 Ohio Poultry Show. it is a 3.5 hour from our home and i am specifically going to purchase some quality pullets. anyone know how to find out what breeders will be participating at the show? i know it's only August, but i am so excited . . .
our neighbor lost all her chickens to a racoon raid. after reinforcing her pen, she has restarted her flock with some young chicks. they are about a month old now and i have a young rooster i would like to give her for that flock. he is about 4-5 months old. does anyone see a problem with this?
i have been getting quite a few eggs with "warts" on the end of their shells. any idea what that might be caused by? age? my girls are age 3+ and i'm thinking that may be issue. inside is typical egg - egg white and yolk. just the outside with all the bumps.
I took my little Seabright chicken back to her flock on Wednesday and she sang when I put her in a nesting box of her coop. Couldn't catch the song because I was so surprised ~ she'd never done that before! Then today I brought her back to her cage/the garage because she was being harassed be...
thanks for the electrolyte recipe. my girl has the area around one eye very swollen as well. i've put her in the garage "infirmary" and am giving her eye drops 2x/day ~ neomycin and polymyxin B sulfates and Dexamethasone opthalmic suspension. what a mouthful! it is for steroid response...
which vinegar? ACV pasturized or ACV raw, unprocessed. i'm certainly not going to buy Bragg's ($$$$$), but i have seen that Heinz has gallons of unprocessed at a much lower price.
we use black livestock bowls elevated on cinder blocks to water our birds. and we have well water with mineral elements. so, the minerals eventually create a "skin" to the bowls and the algae has been sticking to it. we scrub the bowls every-other-day with dawn dish soap and a dish scrubbing...
we have goats and i've just finished giving them their lice treatment - Permectrin CDS. does anyone know if this pour-on insecticide would be o.k. to use and spray on my roosting poles? what do you use to keep lice/parasites at bay (besides Diatomaceous earth sprinkled in their nesting boxes)?
hoping to attend this year's CS (attended last year and brought Amish rag rug for raffle table). also hoping to pick up some pullets that have started laying this early summer. if anyone has any pullets they'd like to sell, please PM me. in light of the flu issues nationwide and the concern...
thank you for the identification! they were purchased at Tractor Supply, but the batch i saw were labeled Fancy Bantams. i'll be checking back about status of gathering together.
yes. we have three with feather feet (2 roosters) and 2 w/o feathers. can you tell what kind they are? i'm stumped. foster arrangements made by hubby, and i thought we were picking up heavy breed chicks. imagine my surprise!
a neighbor gave us 5 chicks ("gift" for daughter who didn't want them), and they turned out to be bantams. not sure what kind ~ think they are called "fancy" ~ and 3 are roosters. they are about 6-8 weeks old and only as big as beanie babies! Please let me know if you are interested.
i'll have to check those out. i used the drip nipple last year with the same heating element resting in the bottom of the bucket, but the metal toggles often froze. go figure.
