That is what I'm doing wrong. I thought I put goat dewormer in the water. But I also give them "worm out" in the water and "ivermectin paste" on bread.
I purchased all my birds from feed stores and they were supposed to be vaccinated. Those are the ones that got hit the hardest.
The six I got from the farmer were not vaccinated. Actually, the rooster that I've been discussing here is one of them. There are only two others from the six that...
Well, my Easter egger died. I will be contacting the necropsy office tomorrow. I don't have room in my fridge . I double bagged her with two large igloo ice blocks.
I will get a necropsy done with the next one which should be soon.
The babies were about four days old from an incubator. I got them about a year ago. This farmer raises all kind of birds. I started having issues approximately five months ago.
UPDATE: I gave hin toltrazuril for two days. He isn't eating as much, but pooping ok. I'm sure that it's mareks. I found another chicken ill this morning. I've lost approximately 35 chickens. Mostly young (under 6 months). The Easter egger that is sick is about two years old. This all started...
I have both corid and toltrazuril. What do you mean by dispatching a chicken? I did the corid already, so I'll do the toltrazuril.
Thank you everyone for all the advice. It really helps to talk to people that are familiar with chickens. Can ducks and turkeys get mareks?
I was afraid of it being mareks. I do have two other roosters. I noticed the very tip of the comb turned black. That was the first sign I had that something wasn't right with the ones that got sick. I will take him in for a necropsy when the time comes.
Why is he holding on so long. The others...
They get regular flock raiser from tractor supply along with sunflower seeds, oyster shell, mealworms and goodies I bring from the kitchen. I use ammonia because I read that it will kill the Coccidiosis germ.
I have a rooster that has not been able to stand up for six weeks now. He keeps eating and drinking. I did take a different chicken to the vet about six months ago and she had Coccidiosis. She died.
When I first noticed that he was having trouble standing, I separated him. Now it's like he is...
lol I already have a male and female GP. I will keep two more and sell/give away the rest. Mom and babies are in the house and doing fine. I'll get a picture uploaded shortly.
Thank you everyone for the help and encouragement. It was one of the hardiest things I have done. I knew it had to be done though. She is buried by the chicken coop and we gave her a little ceremony. On the bright side, my Great Pyrenees gave birth this morning to 11 little babies.
