Hi, Gang 🙂
I will be converting a windowless shed into a shelter...Where might I find small windows - like, 12 to 14 inches wide, and 12 or more inches tall - that can open? I am looking in the U.S. Midwest, would love to find a brick and mortar place.
Hi,
Just a note. Many of us are affected by the floods and fires.❤️ Those who can foster ducks (and other critters) during evacuations are sorely needed.
Lucky Duck sanctuary is one example in California. There are others, I am sure.
Hi, All,
Perhaps it has happened to you. Someone knows you keep a certain kind of animal, and they ask you questions about other kinds of animals.
I am working on a little report on the basics of caring for quail, just an outline really.
One thing we have discussed a bit on the Duck Forum...
Morning, duckworld,
I have been dealing with something I have never seen before. I am not panicked, and at the same time want to share what's going on to tap into the brain trust here and provide an archive reference to this for anyone else who may experience it.
Twice now in the last month...
Hi, I just learned from outside BYC about a small flock of Swedish ducks needing to be rehomed in southern New England.
I don't know all the details, but wanted to put this on the forum and if there is interest, please PM me.
And I may not be able to check PMs till tomorrow . . .
Hi, all, in a couple of threads recently I mentioned or was asked about this, so here is a photo of the simple mounted bowl I made by cutting down a one gallon vinegar bottle.
As you can see, it's been in use for some time. I sometimes toss mealworms or cat kibble into it - it is for dry...
While I don't have a television, I do get some news through the computer, and I wanted to start a little thread here on the Duck Forum to acknowledge the losses our Louisiana peeps are having right now.
I want to figure out what I might be able to help with from afar here in Southern New...

Wondering if there is a common thread, and if we could aggregate what we have found out here in this thread.....
There is a thread on the Emergencies Forum about a very ill Pekin. Any of you willing to think about options and offer suggestions - maybe you can go check this out.
I have posted a response there...
This is not an announcement. We may stay right where we are, but as my beloved and I look ahead, we wonder if there might be a place somewhat better suited to us, to be closer to friends or relatives, or any of a number of possible reasons.
Something he has a concern about is moving the duck...
One of my recent projects is learning to make non-stinky paint from natural ingredients.
And, may I say, I am having a blast!
Ahem.
When Alba was on Panacur, she laid an egg. What to do, what to do?
I learned that one can make tempera paint from egg yolk, and a lovely, translucent...
Hi, all,
I saw that Nettie made a PSA on domestic animal dumping - she covers a number of species, and I think she says it very well.
I have written letters to the editor in the past, and aim to do so again this year.
It's a good time to start, as little critters are already showing up in...
A local farmer is selling brussels sprouts on the stem. I bought a stem since I like for local farmers to make money, and it looked really fascinating. And yes, I like them.
Got it home before I realized there is no way to fit the thing into the frij. Since nights are about refrigerator...
I will be poking around the archives, but if anyone has had a brilliant inspiration or a link with an idea worth considering, please share.
I have the materials list for Day Pen II, and I would like to avoid having to shovel the pen out. That means more effort and expense up front, yes it...
I remember this from a class years ago - migratory birds that are confined get twitchy during migration time. So they gave the condition an interesting name.
The Runners´energy is definitely up a couple of notches, they are eating a little more, and are less patient about waiting to go out...
Hi, I don't have the full scoop just yet, but there's a Swedish drake dumped in NY (I know, it's a large state) near a drainage pond where there is a snapping turtle. I am not in NY, but heard of this through another social media connection.
It may be close enough to Western Connecticut or...
Duck folks, @My2petducks has reminded us that we need to look hard at our ducks' shelter to consider whether it will keep them safe in strong storms. And if there is any doubt, I encourage you to bring them in - it is just for the duration of the storm, and will save you some anxiety and...
I was just reminded that this time of year, with high temperatures, less rainfall, and probably other factors, that pools of water can become fetid (what a word), a.k.a. nasty.
And the dead plant and animal material in that water can give rise to the microbe that causes botulism, a.k.a...
