Hello you two, thank you for reaching out, our new babies just arrived on the 22nd and I am absolutely in love! We got 4 and would have gotten a 100 if it was allowed...they have already changed so much within their first days of life! (talk about fast changes right before your eyes right?).

    gooey poop from vent

Can anyone help me? Our sweet chicken Pepper has a yellow/white discharge from her vent. A few minutes ago I checked on her and she now has a vey dark substance around her vent as well...

    Maggots on vent injury.

Hi Mary. Pepper's now eating more frequently and on her own. She's pecking all around her "hospital room" and she's eating up most of what is put down for her. I'm so relieved. Her behavior has even changed. She walks around more and seems to really favor looking out the screen door. She's more...

    Maggots on vent injury.

She's doing good. She eats more often on her own now, she's had mill worms, blueberries, scramble egg, feed mixed with MannaPro Garden Delight and scratch. She's also drinking on her own and apparently likes the taste of the ROPA. Today is the first time I'm giving it to "the girls". I've done...

    Maggots on vent injury.

Pepper's still on the long road to recovery but I'm more than happy to report she seems to love her new screen door. She's able to look out and see/hear her sisters. In fact she now stands next to the screen more than anywhere else in her "hospital" room. I'm planning on putting a lavender plant...

    Maggots on vent injury.

I'm believing in a full recovery for sweet Pepper. She still has a way to go. Her wound looks so raw and tender and sore. I'm watching over her carefully, looking in on her every hour, (sitting on the floor with her, talking to her and even singing to her like I did when she was a little baby...

    Maggots on vent injury.

Thank you Mary. I'm finally feeling a little more assured that Pepper's recovery really is going in the right direction. You and coach 723 along with others have given me the support that I was in much need of, thank you with all my heart! (just spent some time napping alongside Pepper on the...

    Maggots on vent injury.

Thank you for sharing the turkey pictures. I'm feeling more and more encouraged with your wisdom and kindness, thanks for your postings ...oh and just to share with you, Pepper ate about a tablespoon of fresh squid and scrambled eggs and her droppings (poop) are solid and healthy looking. I...

    Maggots on vent injury.

The flap appears to be dying. There's just so much fat and tissue exposed. I've trimmed the feathers a bit near the exposed area but I'm still concerned. I can't be sure all the maggots are gone. I sometimes use a flashlight when checking for the maggots and so far so good but still...do you...

    Maggots on vent injury.

Pepper's tear on the upper thigh has caused her skin to hang, leaving all tissue exposed. I'm spraying it with Vetericyn and keeping in moist with Neosporin. Can skin eventually grow back over the large exposed area? Is there anything more I can do?

    Maggots on vent injury.

I will wait until she's better before giving her the ROPA. She is drinking Pediolite from the dropper but she's drinking little on her own. I've been giving her a few foods high in water content, cucumber, blueberries, watermelon and strawberries. I saw her shake herself for the first time and...

    Maggots on vent injury.

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. Can you tell me if I should have "grit" accessible for Pepper. She is currently in the laundry-room and has oyster shell to peck at but I wonder about the grit...

    Maggots on vent injury.

Today I decided to only spray the Vetericyn and keep the area moist with Neosporin. She's eating more, (fresh fish, blueberries, mill worms, feed with scratch.) She's had some Pediolite and I will be adding ROPA to her water. Have you used this product or know anything about it?

    Maggots on vent injury.

Yes we do have a vet. We are trying our best first. Today I'm just keeping her wound sprayed with Vetericyn and used a Qtip to slather on the Neosporin. I've decided to give her a rest from washing the wound with water. What do you think? Should I rinse with saline or wait until tomorrow? By the...
