Same situation here. I have one noisy RIR who has much larger wattles and comb. I posted a pic and was told "cockerel", but then she started squatting and now she's laying.
Here are my three RIRs, all about 4 1/2 months. I'm hoping all three are pullets! Two have large-ish combs and make a lot of noise (but no crowing). I don't know how to tell pullets from cockerels.
Our suspected roo is one of the RIRs.
You can't see it in the picture, but her feather pattern is double laced.
I was thinking Barnevelder due to the fact that her feathers have a greenish irridescence from certain angles. But they are rare, no? How can you tell them apart?
Hi, everyone! I've been thinking about getting chickens for years and recently took the plunge. I now have a flock of five 4-month-old pullets (or so we hope - one is looking a bit roosterish but our fingers are crossed). The chicks were ordered were part of a mixed group of different breeds...

I'm looking to connect with other people in El Cajon. Let's see if we can lobby the city council in order to permit chickens on lots smaller than 20K sq ft.
Anyone?
I'm new to all this (don't have any birds yet), so if this effort is already underway, I'd be happy to help. If not, let's...
Actually, it does limit based on property size - only properties zoned R-E-20 (20K sq ft) or R-E-40 (40K sq ft) can have up to 24 birds. Owning poultry is forbidden on smaller properties.
