    Cats

Our coupe is open year round. We have 2 cats that were abandoned here last spring as small kitten's. They come and go from the coup 24/7. They actually snuggle with the hens when it's cold. There have been a few times that the door has been closed on the pen for the night when below 0 out ( I do...

    Help! Ducks attacked by mink!

Minks are horrible! I dispatched the one who got all our 7week olds last year! I was so upset ,the mink ripped a their heads off and left them. I put out a live trap with one of the dead chickens. He came back that night. Next morning he went swimming. ( I know some will think this is horrible...

Looking for Royal Palm baby Turkeys in Ohio

I am looking to buy or where to buy from a person a couple of Royal Palm turkey babies. I could even trade a couple of my Bronze Breasted Turkey babies. I don't like using the hatchery, last year 3 out of 4 of my new turkeys died a week after we got them home. The second order 2 of 6 didn't make it.

    Marek's Disease, Please Help!!

Have you tried Ground Clear weed killer on the weed? I've had problems for years with thistle all over my garden and poison ivy everywhere else. Last fall I'd had enough and tried ground clear. Nothing came back this year ! (Yeah) . It would be worth a shot to try it. I'd move my animals first...

Should I bring in the unscheduled duck eggs?

UPDATE: This morning went out and had one more baby in the nest. Momma wouldn't go near it and the other babies were picking at it so I brought it in the house. Poor baby was cold and hungry. Guess this one will be inside with us for a few weeks. 2 inside the incubator hatched out last night...

We use this stuff called Fly Bait. It stinks like all get up but works. We have had a lot of problems with mink here . I put some in a bowl out side of the chicken coup after having 6 beheaded hens . The next morning I had 3 dead mink instead! We got it from the Mennonite farm down the road...

    The Olive-Egger thread!

I have one like this that lays green eggs. I had no idea it was a she definitely looks more like a small rooster but when I had them separate this spring cleaning out all the houses and our winter pen she had an egg in her box (surprise) when I went to put her back in the run.

I have no idea what I am doing

Oh yes we have a couple times since. It's a learning experience for us. We definitely all learned to leave them too it on their own. Also that if they don't make it there usually is a good reason such as health issues that they were better off to not hatch. Example : one didn't hatch all the...

Needing another turkey baby or 2

Where is a good place to get young heritage turkeys from in northern Ohio? I started out with 2 baby turkeys this spring but the second one wouldn't learn to eat or drink even though it was in the pen with 10 chicks the same age. (Grandma always told me turkeys were morons that you had 2 raise...

I have no idea what I am doing

Yes I learned a valuable lesson 2 months ago. I had 1 egg left in my incubator a chicken egg. When I heard it banging around for 12 hrs I decided to intervine. WORST MISTAKE EVER! Poor thing still had yoke attached to it. It suffered for 3 days before it died. Broke my children's and my...

Should I bring in the unscheduled duck eggs?

Well I brought in most of the eggs. After candling I ended up getting rid of 4 because 2 were not fertilized and 2 were only about a week in. Last night 2 hatched , 1 a tad early I think because it still has part of the sack and she'll attached. Don't think this one will make it. The other is...
