    Help! Eye issue?

I have the same issue. I have a 4 year old hen that has her right eye closed. I picker her up and it doesn't look swollen or scratched. When I pulled the lid down, her eye looked normal. I have no idea what the problem is? Any suggestions?

Can I take chicks away from their mother?

I am giving the babies to someone else. They want them when they are babies and not 8 weeks old. Otherwise I agree, I would always just leave them with the mom.

Can I take chicks away from their mother?

Thank you for the thorough answer. I have raised two sets of chicks with my broody hen and I thought it was the best thing ever. Especially compared to the amount of work I had to do to raise my initial chicks. However, I have a friend that wants some chicks so I had my broody hen sit on eggs...

    Multiple ages together-what to feed?

I just bought a 40# bag of organic chick starter crumbles. Do I have to buy an all flock feed? I’m not sure what that is.

    Multiple ages together-what to feed?

So I don't need to worry about too much protein for the teenagers? The starter I have everyone on is 18% protein. I would love it if I could keep them all on the same food for now until they are all laying.

    4 Week Chicks laying eggs???!?

I have 3 1/2-4 week old chicks that were brooded in the run with the mom. I have now opened the door and they are going in and out of the brooder into the run with the other chickens and mom with no problems (so far). :) Mom has started laying eggs again. I found one in the brooder when I went...

Need Advice on a Broody Hen situation

So...an update. I checked on the mom and babies late this afternoon and she was up and showing them how to eat! So cool to watch her and the 6 little chicks were running around copying her. I still have the one that looks a bit off and one that is still hatching out of the egg. The eggs that...

Need Advice on a Broody Hen situation

Thank you. I agree with what you are saying...it is just harder than I thought it would be. :) Also, I have one chick that has something coming out of its abdomen and I'm not sure if it's yolk, umbilical or intestines. I picked him up and looked at him and he seemed a bit weak but I also know...

Need Advice on a Broody Hen situation

Need Advice on a Broody Hen situation

Thank you both for your response (@Acre4Me and @azygous) Those are the options I have thought about but really needed some experts to confirm for me. I don't have an incubator so I am thinking that I will remove the eggs and let her be a momma to the ones that have already hatched. The first...
