I am willing to try anything, but I cannot have a chick that can't roost or has to be "tended to separately". We have goats and horses and the chickens free range in summer
So, his chick is one of 4 that hatched. I had to help her out of the shell.....
That is never a good sign, but in the past Ive had many who lived happy lives so if they pip but no zip, I help.
Anyways, she had spraddle leg. I used vet wrap on day 2 and bound her legs closer together. I did 4-6...
yes, Im sure she's not laying. I think she may be confused, she is acting like a rooster, coming to look for feed when I come, and then clucking loudly to show she's found something good. Just like a rooster. But she was only one of 4 and I know she is a female, although she did not develop...
Those are cool. I bred my speckled Welly to a CLB rooster and ended up with 3 hens. they all lay speckled light olive eggs, but not as speckled as I would've hoped. Next year's maybe
Hello! I have been away from this thread for the better part of a year. I over did the chicken thing until I was damn sick of anything to do with them. LOL. Decided not to hatch this year. Bought 8 Marans chicks (ended up with 3 splash, 1 black copper, 3 blue copper and 1 wheaten ). I needed...
I have one Mille Fleur that was hatched May 2021. All her regular sized chicken hatch mates started laying in October 2021, one late bloomer in Nov. Is now mid April and my Mille Fleur Belgian D’Uccle has still never laid an egg. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? She is almost 1 year old...
yes, but I don't have twitter, you tube, nor any other account where I can post videos. she is moving around, holding her wings a little low, very alert, and when she hears the other chickens clucking outside she responds with silent clucking. I can see her making clucking sounds, just cant hear...
She has taken olive oil very well, and some water with vitamins and molasses in it. A very good patient. I have felt her abdomen and checked her vent. It is open and wet, so apparently she has been laying without my finding her egg.... probably just started as she is just coming of age. Dont...
yes lethargy. standing alone, puffing up her feathers. if you watch her you can see when she inhales and exhales it is very pronounced. I will check her abdomen and below her vent, and try and drip some olive oil into her mouth and massage it down.
Doubt the parasitic infection thing. Never had an issue with anything like that. No vet around here that looks at chickens, just me. She doesn't seem interested in eating or drinking, but have put vitamin water in with her, and separated her.
She is 4 months.
Haven't seen an egg yet, but hoping to any day.
She is a gorgeous Belgian D'Uccle pullet.
Yesterday she was hanging out alone. Purple comb. Laboured slow breathing.
I tried to catch her, but couldn't. Didn't want to stress her out.
This morning, she remained on the roost when...
