    Hatching ducks and geese together

Hello everyone! I'm about to hatch some Black Swedish ducks and American Buff geese. The eggs are at day 24 and as it gets closer to lockdown I have some questions. I've hatched ducks before, so I know when they hatch and when to lockdown. However, I've never hatched geese before (much less with...

4-H member looking for bantam breeders in Northern Illinois

I'm not sure if they'll be big enough for the fair :( I'll definitely consider it though! I hate the rule that they must be hatched the same year as the show :hmm

4-H member looking for bantam breeders in Northern Illinois

I live in Dixon IL. I might be a little far, but for the right birds it is something I can do. Will you be hatching any this month?

4-H member looking for bantam breeders in Northern Illinois

Hello everyone! :D I'm a member of 4-H and I'm currently looking for bantam breeders (preferably show quality) in Northern Illinois. For the poultry show I compete in, birds must be hatched in the same year as the show (late July), so I'm looking for birds that were hatched either this month or...

    A few of my Leghorns!

I don't know about everyone else on BYC, but I really love my leghorns! They are beautiful and wonderful personalities. Another great thing about them is that they lay a lot of eggs. Just like most leghorns, some of mine are really flighty, but others of mine will come right up to me.. usually...

    Rooster with eye pecked out?

Here are the pictures I got. The top is of when I attempted to open the eye a bit. He wouldn't let me do it for long and struggled. It seemed to cause him quite a lot of pain. The second picture is of the eye being closed. It still looks a little swollen. Do you guys think it's a peck wound or...

    Rooster with eye pecked out?

Thank you! Is the brown gooey substance in the eye a sign it's completely gone or is it just swelling from the injury? I didn't get a good look at it so I couldn't tell if the eye was completely gone or not.

    Rooster with eye pecked out?

Thanks! One of my biggest worries is infection. He's a healthy bird, however, so he will probably pull through.

    Rooster with eye pecked out?

Hello everyone. A few days ago, while cleaning one of my coops, my favorite rooster, Telemachus, walked in and I noticed his left eye was swollen shut. I picked him up and checked it out, and it was very swollen. I saw a scab by his eyelid, and thought it was sealing the eye shut and that I...

    Diamond dove questions

Thanks for your response. It helped! My cockatiel is aggressive, but I think if I kept a pair of doves in a separate cage, he might not be as lonely. I raised a couple pigeon babies a few years ago, so I'm glad to know that knowledge may come in handy with the doves.

    What breed is this monster??

I'm a bit late, but I'm thinking it's a California White. I'm raising a bunch of them right now and they look just like yours. I don't have any recent pictures, but they are white just like your baby and they each have a black spot. California Whites are very similar to leghorns, but they are...

One legged hen due to frostbite. Need help/advice (graphic)

Since she's amongst a ton of other hens, I can't be for sure. However, a lot of them roost on a long, thin perch. Others will roost on or in the nest boxes. I have a lot of thin perches available in the coop. She could have possibly been knocked on the ground, but I doubt that.
