Permanent WATER to coop. Now how do I protect it from freezing???

I kind of lost my mind with this project and, yes, I have electricity to the whole area as well. I have also installed smart outlets and a google assistant. That way I can voice activate the lights, turn them off and on from inside my house and elsewhere...as well as setting up specific scenes...

Permanent WATER to coop. Now how do I protect it from freezing???

It is...everyone here has to bury at least 3 feet deep and that's below. All lines were beneath that except for the pipes that fun vertically to the surface but again those are wrapped with heated tape and insulated. I hope it works (fingers crossed).

Permanent WATER to coop. Now how do I protect it from freezing???

Yes, there is hot going in during the warmer months. I have a small water heater I'll be using that is under the coop in concrete box with access door. It is electric and only is about 1 1/2 foot tall. It's really small and only for a sink on the other side of my coop (washing hands and...

Permanent WATER to coop. Now how do I protect it from freezing???

Thanks for the suggestions, but the pipes actually have electrical insulation wrap on them that automatically plug into the outlets that they were designated for. Plus they will have the foam insulation wrapped around that. The ones in the coop will have insulation in the wall and paneled...

Bumble Foot surgery - Post Op (Antibiotics?)

It has now been a few weeks again and it seems she still has swelling in that foot. I think it's still infected. I don't want to have her endure another surgery to open that foot up again, so should I try antibiotics and if so which ones would work the best? Give me a few because I'm not sure...

Permanent WATER to coop. Now how do I protect it from freezing???

I have had contractors here getting water to both chicken coops as well as the surrounding deck. My plans included spigots to both run and coop area. My only concern now is keeping the pipes from freezing. The tubing used is pex. I have done a lot of research and they maintain the best...

Bumble Foot surgery - Post Op (Antibiotics?)

I had one of my Welsummer hens limping about 10 days ago. It didn't surprise me because she always fights with her sister. I gave her a quick look over and didn't see anything to be alarmed about. Last week she was still limping and when she jumped up onto her perch to get ready for bed I saw...

Comment by 'UtahLisa' in article 'Bumblefoot How To Treat Your Chickens With Surgery Graphic Pics'

I just wanted to say that as a new hen mom stuff like this has given me the courage to take on the challenges face on. My hen had a bad infection in her foot. I though for sure it was bumble foot and was scared to deal with it. I waited a few days to see if it would go away but it continued...

    Hen won't leave nesting box.

Did you figure out a way to get your hen out of the nesting boxes? I have a Buff who won't leave the box and she has not been there for 3 days. When I push her out she will forage for a minute and take a dust bath but she'll sneak back in pretty quickly. Suggestions for the same issue????

Sick Hen - Slow Death (Euthanization Suggestions)

I don't think exhaust fumes is good for anything....so that's just slow suffocation. Thanks for the input and actually someone here locally mentioned a cone and I had to google what that was even. There are several video that quickly popped up and I think that would be a great thing to have...

Sick Hen - Slow Death (Euthanization Suggestions)

Thank you so much for your understanding and yes even the hard realization that dislocation is probably the fastest way to handle this. It's what ended up being the resolution at the end. I got a lot of direction from everyone here and support, which made me feel a lot better about what needed...

Sick Hen - Slow Death (Euthanization Suggestions)

Thank you for your information...it was helpful and in the end I did end up doing it myself. It wasn't anything like I was thinking. I'm just glad she is at peace now. She got so much worse in the later morning and early afternoon....I had to do something. Thanks for your support and...

Sick Hen - Slow Death (Euthanization Suggestions)

I ended up calling one of my really good friends that's a Vet in Idaho. He walked me through the options and finally just told me that I should put her down and not wait for the evening appointment. If she was in that much pain (which was getting worse) it was just cruel and my hang up. Of...

Sick Hen - Slow Death (Euthanization Suggestions)

$33.00 - I feel this is fair so that's the avenue I'll be taking. Thanks! I was wondering about the other options because last week my neighbors chicken was attacked by a dog and it ripped her wing off and she was severely and mortally wounded. I'm sure I would do it if I had to under that...

Sick Hen - Slow Death (Euthanization Suggestions)

Yes, I will be calling shortly to figure out prices. Them and the local humane society. My whole request is that I have had pets and they do crazy things and generally it's just like kids...when they get sick or hurt it's never M-F 8-5. So, I'm also looking for feedback on situations that I...

Sick Hen - Slow Death (Euthanization Suggestions)

She's a Red, 2 years old. Has been with her flock the majority of her life but have added 5 other hens to their group. They all adapted very well. They were all relocated to my residence which is 40 mile from where they were. However, when I took them I relocated their same Coop and run...
