Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Hey all! We got 15 new chicks last spring and have a total of 20 chickens in our flock now. My hubby just added more nesting boxes for them and we also have added a crested gecko, and just this week we are fostering two pups from the pound who were strays. So we are in all the chaos of learning...

    Roo or Hen?

Who wants to play…who is a rooster in our latest bunch of chicks? I have two RIR that one has a bit more of a comb than the other but my two white leghorns are like that and they both ended up being hens. Also have one starlight green egger that I was hoping would be a pullet but was a SR fro...

    16 weeks breed &gender help

I got two “cuckoo marans” from a local farm store 4/4th and one quickly started to look bigger, and also just totally different than the other. I’ve had cuckoos before so I know what they usually look like once they start getting feathers in. I assume we have a rooster that got mixed up and is...

    Breastbone/Keel injury?

We have a scale so I can definitely check that. Never noticed an issue with that before(not that it may have been there and we just didn’t know), but she acted fine until after the predation situation so I assumed she had been injured somehow with all that. I’ll definitely giver her some of the...

    Breastbone/Keel injury?

We had a predator attack on Dec 15th, and lost two hens at the time because of it. Several hens had been chased/attacked as we found multiple feather areas in diff parts of our yard but only the two that we lost had visible injury, at least from what we could tell. Another has not acted right...

    Limp with yellowish mass

Yah I am not sure as I haven't encountered feather cysts before and I did look at that link as well as several others and those pics looked like a large swelling area of skin was involved but this didn't have that so I am not sure. I will keep monitoring that area though and see if additional...

    Limp with yellowish mass

Update: got this pic this evening. The base appeared to be looser on one side today so I tugged at it as gently as I could. There is some scabing/scaley yellow along her skin in couple spots near this but it's flat. I was able to pull this off and it was bleeding slightly in a couple spots. She...

    Limp with yellowish mass

She will put weight on it, usually. When jumping up onto the roost she will pull it up sometimes and if I pick her up she will pull her leg up and curl her toes some. She walks around fine other than limping some more than others.

    Limp with yellowish mass

I will try to get a better pic she was ready to get up and a bit squirmy when i took the pic. I had given her a soak and wrapped her up to look her leg area more closely and I saw a much smaller circular yellowish almost crusty/pus like one nearby that i was able to remove. that small one was...

    Limp with yellowish mass

A bit ago my hen was limping so checked her for bumblefoot and she was good there. Her skin was red and up above her leg on the side she was limping on was yellowish thin stuff that I could soak and remove. I wasn't sure if it was infection and her legs don't appear to have scaly mites or...

    New wound on chick

I had asked this before we went to town and by time we got back it was healed over. I had gotten some hydrogen peroxide spray while out and did some of that on it. Still was good this am and all day today I’ve been with them and she’s good to go for now.

    New wound on chick

She’s with two others her age and three one week older that have all been together since we got them. Thanks for the info, I’ll go through it and hopefully won’t get any worse. I wasn’t sure if there was wound care stuff I’d need to buy.

    New wound on chick

I have six chicks and all has been great so far, one I noticed this afternoon has a wound on her back area. I haven’t seen the others pecking at her so idk if it’s them or her that’s done it but what’s best plan of action? She’s approx a month old.

    When Is It Time?

I’m looking to move mine outside to their coop as soon as we get the coop afixed to it’s location and anchored. My husband put it together last weekend (prefab) and a big storm came Sunday and took it for a ride, we think it flipped once or twice and is repairable. The chicks are getting big...

    Post pictures of your coop!!

Here’s my beginning one...first day it was built (prefab from TSC), the chicks got to run around in it for a few minutes and check it out while it was warm out. They are still in brooder at night and we haven’t set it up permanent as was just built...big storm came and flipped it a couple times...
