Oh, your birds are lovely! What a beautiful family. They do appear to be Welsh Harlequins. The yellow bill is happens in some strains, I think. Someone else on here has a girl with a yellow bill. At any rate, I found this information for you...
In 2 weeks, the ducklings will be one year old! As it will probably rain on their birthday, or I will be working, I decided to take pictures today. Everyone is well. Chester loves his mother very much and makes sure he keeps an eye on her at all times, even when she goes off to do “Muscovy...
I went out for breakfast
I (almost) finished the spring barn clean-out (except for an area where water spilled, froze, and hasn’t fully thawed).
I set up and opened up the duckio for the spring.
I will take a bath
I will do laundry
I will do dishes
44 degrees Fahrenheit and rainy! Let the spring thaw begin! There’s several feet of snow that need to be melted. It’s going to be a floody kind of spring.
Oh, it’s time to start the awful spring barn clean-out, which will be extra dreadful this year as I’ve been out of commission for the past 6 weeks post-surgery. So, maybe I’ll work on that a bit as it is going to be above freezing!
I’ve already done dishes and laundry… I’ve got to figure out...
Thank you! I’ve survived the surgery, now it’s time for some rest. I thankfully have a wonderful husband who is currently on 100% animal duty. Hopefully, I will be up and about soon!
3 in 2 days. I have another layer. 2/3 had the slightest hint of a green tinge. I’m going to be out of commission for a bit, but will ask hubby to keep an eye out for who the second layer might be!
1, as it has been with maybe a day or two skipped. I do have confirmation that it is Apollo laying as I walked in on her in labor this AM! So, an official congratulations to Apollo, who is now a grown lady duck!
Would you consider ordering hatching eggs instead? I had great luck with ordering eggs from Metzer’s last spring, and it seems like that would be safer, AI-wise!
I’ve never had surgery done on any of my ducks, but I did try the Suprelorin implant on one of my beloved Muscovies in 2023. She was having a heck of a rough time with internal laying/lash eggs. Before her, I had another duck with endless laying issues. I was told the implants were illegal at...
My only concern was that the sutures they used might be the type that dissolve with time and that swimming could cause them to break down too quickly or that too much movement could cause dehiscence of the wounds. I absolutely agree that bathing provides ducks with physical and psychological...
I’m so glad to hear that Blanca is hanging in there and that Peppermint is doing well! Definitely check with the vet before allowing Blanca to swim. Typically, most surgeries require a 2 week period before bathing is allowed, but I’m not sure if that would be the case with ducks…
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and for your wonderful ideas! I will go shopping this weekend :) I like my current setup in general as my rubber livestock bowls are indestructible, but there is a lot more clean-up required that I will not be able to keep up with for a bit. Also...
