    Is this bumblefoot?

Thanks for your reply! If you could take a look at my plan and give me any comments or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm going to trim his foot feathers first. Soak twice a day (15 minutes each) in warm Epsom salt water. I have MicrocynAH spray, Prid, and Neosporin (NON...

    Is this bumblefoot?

My favorite boy started limping yesterday. I think he has it on both feet. I have read about treating it, but I will definitely have questions if someone confirms that it is bumblefoot.

This question is for anyone who has CHICKENS AND GOATS

We have 3 goats, 1 turkey, and 9 chickens (3 of them are roosters). Everyone lives together, night and day, and we don't have any problems with that. I did some research on-line before my daughter got her goats, and I came up with my own version of a goat-proof chicken feeder. It hurt...

Official BYC Poll: When Did Your Hen/s Begin Laying Eggs?

I have a Midnight (or maybe it's Mystic) Marans that started laying at 14 weeks. I was not expecting that! She's a REALLY good layer. One time I kept track, and she layed an egg 53 days in a row before she took a one day break and then started again.

Big metal shed to chicken coop...?

I'm a little late here, but here's an idea for the sliding glass door problem with your dog. I assume the sliding side is on the inside of the coop. If you can get to that from a different entrance, you could open it just wide enough for the cats to fit through and then have your husband...

Trying again. Hope this one works.

    Injured chick

I read so many threads that never have a post on what happened in the end, so here is "the rest of the story". I continued feeding "Moira" by hand. I also changed his food and water bowls to yogurt lids glued to a thin piece of wood (to keep them from tipping), and put piles of crumble around...

    Injured chick

I've implemented as many of your ideas as I could. I appreciate your help. His area is much bigger now, but he never goes into the middle. He just has a bigger "race track". I've experimented with moving one of the food and water closer, and into, his path. I saw him eat food out of...

    Injured chick

Well, I hope I added the video correctly of the chick trying to walk (with no help from my kids!) Patting myself on the back if it worked...

    Injured chick

I was unable to figure out how to post a video of him moving, but here is a picture of his set-up. When he moves, he just circles the cage like a race car driver. I have seen him drag himself right over both of the bowls, but today he managed to stop at the crumble bowl and actually eat...

    Injured chick

I will try to post a video tomorrow, but it may be beyond my capabilities. We start him standing up and he basically ends up on that left side with a lot of kicking and flapping. He does move though. My husband thought he did a little better tonight, but I'm not so sure. I do not have...

    Injured chick

Thank you for your response. I have considered the quality of life thing. I'm trying everything I can think of, but I do realize it's not fair to him. And I also can't go on with the every 3 hour feedings forever either. Hopefully I will get a few more ideas to try from BYC members...

Updated: Bantam rooster can't stand or walk!

How is your chick? I literally just did a post about what looks to be a very similar problem. My vet said it was most likely NOT Mereks disease due to the circumstances leading up to the problem.

    Injured chick

Ok BYC, I need some help. I have a 6 week old bantam chick. Two weeks ago, a board was broken in the top of the brooder, and it must have hit the chick. I knew he was injured by the way he was walking, but I thought he was well enough to stay with mom and sibling. The next morning when I...

    warm, swollen turkey leg

You may well be very correct about the vet, but the only other vet I found was an hour and a half away. I also think maybe they were trying to explain it to me in a way that would be easier for me to understand. When I "Googled" it, what I found said that only 10-20 percent of turkey hens...

    warm, swollen turkey leg

Just returned from the poultry vet. The swelling and heat in her leg and foot has improved significantly since I previously posted, but she is still limping. The vet said there were no signs of bumblefoot or infection, and we both thought it may have gotten injured from jumping down from...

    warm, swollen turkey leg

It looked ok to me. I've got a vet appointment on March 17, but they said if she gets any worse, they'll take her sooner as an emergency patient. She's eating, drinking, pooping, and hobbling around, so I think she's ok for now. Thanks again for your input. I'll try to remember to post...

    warm, swollen turkey leg

Ok- now I see that it's shaped differently. I was looking for a black spot. I guess I will try to get her the vet appointment. I really appreciate your input. It gives me more information to go on.

    warm, swollen turkey leg

I'm so glad you're replying! Can you tell me where you see it? The only thing is, the last picture is of her right foot, and it's the left one that is swollen.
